According to information from Le Canard Enchaine , the National Inspectorate General (IGPN) is the unit investigating the case. Specifically, the French newspaper revealed that four police officers each received a check worth 30,000 euros from Mbappe's account in June 2023. The police chief alone is said to have received a check for 60,300 euros, bringing the total amount of "donations" to 180,300 euros.
Mbappe previously explained that he had decided to donate all of his prize money from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the security team and other organizations. He confirmed that he had consulted a lawyer and was told that "the recipients do not need to declare it to the tax authorities".
Mbappe also pledged that the move would be carried out with "absolute transparency". The Real Madrid star said that this was a way to show gratitude to the silent heroes, while strengthening the bond between players and security personnel.
The Inspectorate General of the State (IGPN) is focusing on the role of the police chief who received a larger sum than his subordinates. This incident is attracting great attention from the French public, especially in the context of Mbappe being one of the most beloved football stars today.
Currently, Mbappe's side has not given any further response to the incident.
