At around 3pm on February 10 (the first day of Tet), a scrap yard on Street 6, Ward 15, Go Vap District suddenly caught fire. The fire was bright red with billowing black smoke and was at risk of spreading to the surrounding residential area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, a resident living near the fire area, said she heard many loud explosions. When she ran out to see, she saw the scrap warehouse in flames.
Many people shouted to bring mini fire extinguishers to put out the fire but failed. The scrap yard contained many flammable items, causing the fire to grow bigger and spread around.
Fearing the fire would spread, people living nearby quickly moved their cars and vehicles away from the area where the fire broke out.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police of Ho Chi Minh City Police mobilized 5 fire trucks and many police officers to control the fire.
By 4:00 p.m. the same day, the fire was under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
