13-year-old boy cross-dresses for the first time and dances "whore playing bong" at Trieu Khuc village festival

The traditional festival of Trieu Khuc village takes place on the 9th of January every year, attracting a large number of people to attend. This year, Luu Bao Khanh (13 years old) was honored to be selected as a member of the village's unique "con dia danh bong" dance team.

On the afternoon of February 18 (January 9), the traditional festival of Trieu Khuc village (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi ) was held in remembrance of the national hero Bo Cai Dai Vuong Phung Hung.

According to legend, Trieu Khuc village was formerly the place where Phung Hung (Bo Cai Dai Vuong) trained his troops to fight against the enemy general Dao Chinh Binh of the Tang Dynasty of China. This was not Phung Hung's hometown, but after winning the throne, the people of Trieu Khuc village worshiped Phung Hung and honored him as a Saint.

Trieu Khuc village festival takes place from January 9 to 12 every year, with the Phung Hung royal edict procession, which is meant to invite the saint to the main hall, celebrate his coronation, and thank him for giving the villagers a prosperous and peaceful life.

The festival begins with important rituals that cannot be missed such as: incense offering ceremony, royal procession ceremony, naturalization ceremony, sacrifice ceremony...

Trieu Khuc village festival is considered to still retain the beauty of traditional festivals. In the photo are the village elders participating in the procession carrying the palanquin of King Phung Hung to the village communal house.

The highlight of the Trieu Khuc village festival is the "prostitute beating the ball" dance performed by boys dressed as girls.

The boys of Trieu Khuc village (Tan Trieu commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi) in their messy clothes, rosy cheeks and red lips, danced the "prostitute beating the bong" dance, captivating the audience. Luu Bao Khanh (13 years old, left of the photo) shared: "This is my first time participating in the festival, I feel very happy and proud to be selected to join the "prostitute beating the bong" dance team."

Legend has it that, to encourage the spirit of his soldiers, King Phung Hung of Bo Cai had his soldiers dress up as girls, wearing drums and dancing with drums, when he gathered his troops in Trieu Khuc village to besiege the Tang army around the 8th century. Since then, to commemorate his merits, every spring, the villagers held a ceremony to welcome Thanh Hoang, which included the "prostitute playing drums" dance.

The Bong dance is free-spirited, decisive, and strong, but also very soft and flexible. They dance together to the cheers of the festival-goers.

Their eyes sparkled, their mouths smiled beautifully in their flexible dance steps, they gracefully blended with the pounding drum beats, making the audience excited.

Offering trays were arranged by the people along the procession's route. The people of Trieu Khuc village sincerely hoped that he would bless them with a peaceful new year.

The festival attracted the participation of many Trieu Khuc villagers and tourists from all over.
