The United Nations Vesak Festival hosted by Vietnam will take place from May 6 to 8 in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of delegations from 80 countries and 5 territories.
On May 2, the procession of the Buddha's relics, the national treasure of India, was held at Thanh Tam Pagoda, Lang Le Park and the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City. According to documents from the Indian Embassy, the Buddha's relics were escorted to Ho Chi Minh City by an Indian special plane by Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minorities of India, Mr. Kandula Durgesh - Minister of Tourism and Culture of Andhra Pradesh state, and other high-ranking monks and officials of India.
The Buddha's relics will be enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda from May 3 to May 8 and then enshrined in Tay Ninh, Hanoi and Ha Nam provinces until May 21.
On this occasion, a cutting from the sacred Bodhi tree was brought from India and planted by the Indian Minister and the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Ho Chi Minh City.
On the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak and in the context of the deep relationship between India and Vietnam, a thematic exhibition on the historical connection in Buddhist beliefs, art and culture spanning over 2,000 years will be held at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition, an Indian art troupe will come to Vietnam to perform a special dance drama "The Journey of Gautama Buddha", recreating the life and message of Buddha Shakyamuni, in Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Hanoi and other localities.
India values the strong ties between the people of India and the people of Vietnam and hopes that the procession of the Buddha's relics to Vietnam and related activities will contribute to further deepening relations between the two countries.
