Ornamental plants and flowers for Tet in Binh Duong, from buying and selling "noble flowers" outright, to renting out yellow apricot trees

As spring air fills every corner of Binh Duong , the flower and ornamental plant rental service is busier than ever. Many people are willing to invest from several million to tens of millions of dong for a flower or ornamental plant pot in the hope of bringing luck and fortune for the new year.

Since the 10th day of the lunar calendar, many customers have come to the yellow apricot garden of Mr. Tran Nhu Cuong (41 years old) in Cam Xe hamlet, Minh Hoa commune, Dau Tieng district (Binh Duong province) to buy and rent Tet bonsai.

In particular, more than 60 large and small bonsai yellow apricot pots were delivered to customers' homes by the garden owner with rental prices ranging from 5 - 7 million VND/pot.

In addition to bonsai yellow apricot trees, Mr. Nhu Cuong, a gardener growing ornamental flowers and plants in Cam Xe hamlet, Minh Hoa commune, Dau Tieng district (Binh Duong province) also supplies about 1,600 pots of Tet orchids to the market.

“It was a rainy day after picking the mai leaves, so luckily the buds bloomed quickly in time for Tet. Only a few pots had uneven buds, but they were still manageable. These pots will be carefully sprayed with water and brought out into the sun to help the husks pop out in time,” said Mr. Cuong.

This year, Mr. Cuong plans to supply the market with about 200 pots of yellow apricot trees with prices ranging from 3 million to 40 million VND depending on size, age and shape.

In order to limit the impact of unfavorable weather on this year's Tet apricot blossoms, Mr. Cuong said he followed the "5 rights" rule: right soil, right tree, right time, right dosage and method.

In addition, he also uses many types of organic fertilizers, such as rice husk ash, coconut fiber, and earthworms to avoid affecting the environment and the quality of apricot flowers next year.

Many other types of Tet ornamental plants are also being cultivated by gardeners in Binh Duong.

Mr. Pham Van Kha (40 years old), owner of Kha Pham garden (Dong Be hamlet, Minh Thanh commune, Dau Tieng district, Binh Duong province) said that he will supply nearly 3,000 Tet bonsai pots in Dau Tieng district and Chon Thanh flower market ( Binh Phuoc ) with 5 types of Tet bonsai, including: yellow apricot, bougainvillea, cockscomb, longevity and sunflower.

“In pairs, sunflowers are 250,000 VND, long-lived flowers are about 150,000 - 160,000 VND, cockscombs are 120,000 VND, and Indian bougainvillea alone is about 500,000 - 15 million VND depending on the pot. The main product is grafted apricot, about 30 - 40 pots, with a rental price of about 2 - 5 million VND/pot,” said Mr. Kha.

Yellow apricot is still the Tet ornamental plant that attracts flower lovers.

A Tet apricot tree pot costs 50 million VND to rent in the garden of Mr. Hieu, a yellow apricot farmer in Hung Dinh ward, Thuan An city (Binh Duong province).

Visiting Hieu Mai Garden (Hung Dinh Ward, Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province) with more than 500 pots of Thu Duc's original Giao Mai variety, the number of customers ordering at this time is quite large, some people even came to see the trees since the end of October.

Mr. Do Xuan Hieu, owner of the yellow apricot garden, said: "This year the climate is much more uncomfortable than in previous years. I started picking leaves from the 12th lunar day for 5 consecutive days to make the buds bloom.

The qualified apricot pots have been ordered early by customers and shipped quickly on the same day. The plants with few buds or small buds will be cared for and given a lot of sunlight to bloom beautifully around the 27th of Lunar New Year.

With its elaborateness and high cost, the Tet ornamental plant rental service ensures the decoration needs and economic conditions of many people.

According to Mr. Hieu, the rental price of apricot trees for Tet will depend on the diameter, beauty, age and many other factors. “This type of apricot tree requires a lot of care and the flowers are very beautiful, so it is often favored by many customers who are business owners and agencies. For example, a tree about 3.8m tall, with a beautiful shape, standard buds and a root about 23 years old will cost 50 million VND until the 10th day of Tet,” said Mr. Hieu.

Customers come to the garden to choose their favorite Tet apricot pots.

With more than ten years of experience growing Tet apricot trees and taking care of yellow apricot trees, Mr. Hieu, Hung Dinh ward, Thuan An city (Binh Duong province) focuses on middle and high-end customers.

Coming from Ho Chi Minh City to Hieu Mai garden to order apricot flowers for Tet, Mr. Le Hoang Dung, Deputy Chief of Office of VNPT Ho Chi Minh City, said: “Choosing apricot flowers for Tet is quite elaborate.
