The tech company also agreed to reshuffle the board of directors that ousted Altman. OpenAI appointed Bret Taylor, formerly co-CEO of Salesforce, as president and also appointed Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary, to its board.

CEO Altman said in a post on X, “I look forward to returning to OpenAI.” After Altman was fired last Friday, the OpenAI board offered little explanation beyond his lack of candor and the need to defend OpenAI’s mission.
Tuesday's reinstatement appears to be a boon for Altman and Microsoft, which is a financial backer of OpenAI and is deploying OpenAI's technology to enterprise customers around the world.
In a statement, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella welcomed the changes, saying: “We believe this is an essential first step on the path to more stable, informed, and effective governance.”
CEO Nadella had said Altman could join Microsoft to lead a new research group with other colleagues leaving OpenAI. On Monday, nearly all of OpenAI's more than 700 top employees threatened to quit and said they would join Microsoft unless Altman was reinstated.
