(QNO) - Skillful, passionate, and persistent in the art of nail and thread painting, Nguyen Duc Tin (born 1992, Hoa Thuan ward, Tam Ky city) has created unique paintings from nails and thread.
String art was invented by Mary Everest Boole in the late 19th century with the English name “String art”. This is an art form that requires meticulousness, perseverance and creativity of the artist. Up to now, in Vietnam, String art is still not very popular. In Quang Nam - Da Nang, there is currently no artist pursuing the art of string art except Nguyen Duc Tin.
Having had an artistic talent since childhood, although he studied tourism , Tin sought out friends who studied fine arts. After graduating, although he worked in many jobs from tour guide to restaurant and hotel chef... but in his free time, Tin found joy in painting.

Being interested in nail painting since 2018 when he accidentally saw a nail painting by a French artist on the internet, Duc Tin has since then tried to find materials, learn and gradually master the profession. Although Tin's life is difficult, he still does not give up his passion for the art of nail painting.

“Studying and creating on my own without any companions is really a challenge for me. In other art forms, there are communities to create, collect, share skills, and have fun... but with this genre, I have to do everything myself” - Duc Tin shared.
The familiar materials of nail paintings include wood, unriveted nails and thread. To complete a vivid painting, one must go through the stages of sketching, pinning nails, and weaving thread; while with digital nail paintings, one must grasp the algorithm to weave the thread appropriately.
The process only has a few steps, but the difficulty lies in how to weave the threads to create the "soul" of the work. It takes several days, even months to complete an artistic thread painting.
Nguyen Duc Tin said that in the past, there were some young people who came to him to learn the profession but then gave up. Patience is a big challenge to be able to pursue this art form. That is why up to now, in Tam Ky, only Tin is creating String art.
The beauty of everyday life and love from the simplest things bring creative inspiration through each skillful and delicate line in the works of this young man.
Tin said he loves the beauty of reality, of life around him, of motherhood, of Vietnamese women in traditional ao dai, Buddhism, portraits... so these are common themes in his works.
Nguyen Duc Tin's paintings are intimate, authentic, conveying messages about the meaning and value of life and praising human beauty. The light and dark areas intersect softly but are still sharp and harmonious.
To improve his skills and meet the increasing demands of customers, Duc Tin is still learning new materials and new themes. Tin is nurturing ideas for works about his hometown and the landscapes of Tam Ky, Hoi An, Da Nang, etc.
After many years of hard work, from personal passion, Nguyen Duc Tin's nail paintings have been initially ordered by many customers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang... Each nail painting currently costs from several hundred thousand dong to several million dong.
"At first, it was just a passion for creating new genres of paintings, not thinking that now it would be my main source of income. I hope that one day soon, the art of nail painting will be known by many people. From there, String art will have more people who love to create, especially young artists, so that this community can develop further" - Tin confided.
