(NLĐO) - The Song Thai Bridge in Quang Binh province , with an investment of 40 billion VND, is expected to ensure safety, resolve traffic difficulties, and promote economic development in the region.
The Thai River Bridge was built nearly 30 years ago.
On January 27th, the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee announced that it had issued a decision allocating 40 billion VND from the provincial budget to build a new Song Thai bridge in Quang Trach district.
This project is being invested in by the Quang Binh Department of Transport, with the goal of ensuring progress and quality by 2025.
According to this decision, 40 billion VND will be allocated from the Quang Binh provincial budget reserve to carry out tasks related to disaster prevention and control, national defense and security, and other duties. Among these, the construction of the new Song Thai bridge is identified as one of the top priorities.
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper , the Song Thai bridge is currently located on Provincial Road 558B, connecting the communes of Quang Phu, Quang Kim, and Quang Hop in Quang Trach district. This is a vital bridge for approximately 14,000 people who want to access National Highway 1 and the district center.
The Song Thai Bridge, constructed in 1996, is over 100 meters long and has a structure of 6 spans, each supported by 3 reinforced concrete girders. Although management units have intensified repairs and maintenance over time, the damage caused by saltwater intrusion is progressing rapidly and becoming increasingly serious.
This bridge is a vital link for approximately 14,000 people who want to access National Highway 1A and the center of Quang Trach district.
The construction of the new Song Thai Bridge aims to overcome current limitations, ensure smooth traffic flow, and promote regional economic development.
According to Mr. Hoang Dang Cuong, Director of the Quang Binh Department of Transport, the new Song Thai bridge will be designed on a modern scale, meeting higher load capacity standards, ensuring safety and continuous traffic flow. The Department of Transport will closely coordinate with relevant units to effectively utilize the capital and complete the project as soon as possible.
According to the plan, the project will conduct geological surveys, provide design consultancy, and organize the bidding process in March 2025.
The bridge surface is peeling, cracked, and has many uneven patches; the rubber expansion joints are severely damaged; and both bridge abutments are eroded, exposing boulders and showing cracks.
The Thai River Bridge spans an area of saline-affected river, resulting in rapid corrosion of the steel reinforcement. The bridge structure is rusted; the underside and many concrete pillars have large cracks, exposing the steel reinforcement, and some points require reinforcement by adding new layers of concrete.
