If users follow the instructions from the strange message, they will have their personal information and sensitive data associated with their Telegram account stolen.
According to information from the Anti-Phishing project, this unit has just discovered a phishing campaign targeting Telegram users.
To scam users, bad guys will send Telegram messages asking victims to verify their identity, security, or report a breach. Included in the message content are links to fake websites, with interfaces similar to the Telegram website.
If users log in to their account information, enter their password and OTP code on the fake website, their personal information and sensitive data associated with the account will be stolen.
In some more sophisticated cases, bad guys even create fake Telegram bots. When users click on the message, a new login “window” will appear right in the application with the same purpose of stealing.
Based on a reported scam link, the Anti-Fraud team said that after analyzing the source code, it found that the scammers used notes in multiple languages, indicating that they came from different countries.
This shows that the scam campaign is targeting Telegram users in many countries around the world.
To avoid becoming a victim, Telegram users need to be vigilant when receiving strange messages or notifications.
Never click on links of unknown origin sent via Telegram messages.
