Comrade Le Minh Khai, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister received Mr. Dominique Paravicini, Secretary of State of the Swiss Ministry of Economic Affairs,Education and Research.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai expressed his pleasure to meet the Secretary of State on the occasion of attending the second OECD - Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum hosted by Vietnam in its capacity as Co-Chair of the OECD Southeast Asia Program (SEARP) with Australia.

Vietnam highly appreciates Switzerland's role and contributions to the OECD and especially to the OECD Southeast Asia Programme (SEARP). On this occasion, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai sincerely thanked Switzerland for its support to Vietnam in its capacity as Co-Chair of SEARP. The Deputy Prime Minister expected and believed that the participation and active contributions of the Secretary of State and the Swiss delegation would greatly contribute to the success of this year's Forum.

Mr. Dominique Paravicini, Secretary of State of the Swiss Ministry of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, respectfully thanked Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai for taking the time to receive the delegation and said that during his working trip to the beautiful, friendly and hospitable country of Vietnam in recent days, learning about the activities of the Swiss business community in Vietnam, working with ministries, branches, localities, etc., his long-standing dream has come true.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai suggested that the two sides closely coordinate and effectively implement the "Vietnam-Switzerland Cooperation Program for the 2021-2024 period".

Regarding the OECD Conference in Vietnam, Mr. Dominique Paravicini said that within the framework of the conference, there will be many different working groups on the topics: Anti-corruption; good governance practices; assessing investment potential in Southeast Asia;... The Swiss State Secretary said that this is a good forum for countries to share governance experiences and learn from each other, and expressed his belief that the conference will be a great success.

Regarding foreign relations between the two countries, Mr. Dominique Paravicini, Secretary of State of the Swiss Ministry of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, also expressed his hope that Vietnam and Switzerland will continue to have effective activities to promote economic, trade and investment relations, etc., thereby contributing significantly to further deepening relations between the two countries in other fields, especially in political relations, foreign affairs, etc.

Sharing the views of the Swiss State Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai suggested that the two sides closely coordinate and effectively implement the "Vietnam-Switzerland Cooperation Program for the 2021-2024 period", with priorities being to enhance the competitiveness of the private economic sector, develop the knowledge-based economy, and respond to new challenges in development and climate change. Vietnam hopes to continue receiving support from Switzerland for Vietnam's sustainable development efforts in the coming period, especially in enhancing the competitiveness of the private economic sector, business cooperation, etc.

Regarding investment cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always supports businesses investing in Vietnam, including Swiss businesses; hopes that Swiss businesses will continue to choose Vietnam as a destination, especially in areas where Switzerland has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as: Trade, finance, banking, insurance, precision mechanics, collective economic development, etc. Vietnam welcomes and commits to creating the most favorable conditions for Swiss businesses to invest in production and business in Vietnam stably and long-term.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai suggested that Switzerland - a member with an important voice in the EFTA bloc - coordinate closely and create a breakthrough to soon conclude negotiations and sign the FTA.

Regarding the negotiation process of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai suggested that Switzerland - a member with an important voice in the EFTA bloc - closely coordinate and create a breakthrough to soon conclude negotiations and sign the FTA.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai also expressed his wish that Switzerland would share its experience and support Vietnam in building a high-quality education system; promote cooperation and exchange between educational institutions of the two sides, and implement joint training programs in fields in which Switzerland has strengths, especially in pharmaceuticals, manufacturing technology, precision engineering, tourism, finance - banking, insurance, etc. He suggested that Switzerland increase the number of scholarships granted to Vietnamese students to study in Switzerland.

Mr. Dominique Paravicini, Secretary of State of the Swiss Ministry of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, said that through contacts, Swiss enterprises operating in Vietnam highly appreciate Vietnam's potential.

Emphasizing the huge investment potential in Vietnam, affirming that Swiss investors are investors with long-term vision, always bringing benefits to the destination countries, with Nestlé's success in Vietnam being an example, the Minister of State hopes and believes that in the coming time, Swiss enterprises will have a greater presence in Vietnam, and at the same time wishes that in the Swiss market, there will be more high-end products from Vietnam.

The Minister of State also said that the Swiss Government will continue to implement the development cooperation program with Vietnam; discuss with the Deputy Prime Minister about implementing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of: Finance - banking; digital transformation; response to climate change; development of science and technology and training of high-quality human resources;...
