Self-drive car rental is back in business

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động07/06/2023

After the holiday, the demand for self-driving car rental continued to maintain a growth rate of 30% compared to the same period last year. The main reason is a series of expressways that have just been put into operation in the South, helping people easily travel to tourist attractions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of Sigo Vietnam Co., Ltd. (owner of the Sigo car rental application), admitted that the new highways have helped increase the number of car rental customers. In addition, the significant decrease in self-drive rental prices compared to last year is also one of the factors stimulating demand. In particular, the rental price of class A cars has decreased the most by 40%, now about 300,000 VND/day; class B and C cars have decreased by about 10%, to 700,000 VND to 1 million VND/day; class D cars have decreased by about 5%, to 1.2-1.4 million VND.

The number of self-drive rental cars has increased significantly.

"Customers are used to renting cars through apps, the rental procedures are simpler and easier, no longer need to have a household registration, temporary residence, mortgage assets or mortgage tens of millions of dong like before, just a citizen ID card is enough. Previously, car rental companies limited the number of kilometers operated per day to no more than 300, but now, due to competition, apps do not limit the number of kilometers, this also helps the number of customers renting cars increase significantly" - the owner of this app explained.

According to Mr. Long, because it is the summer tourist season, the demand for self-drive car rental is increasing quite high. Therefore, car rental prices in the summer months also increase by about 10% compared to normal months.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Leo, Director of Tourist Vehicle and Tourist Transport Cooperative No. 4 (HCMC), said that in the near future, the expressways to Da Lat (Lam Dong) and the expressway section from Phan Rang (Ninh Thuan) connecting Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa) will be completed, which will open the road to Nha Trang; then the Dong Nai - Ba Ria Vung Tau expressway under construction will be put into use. The shortened tourist route will attract more car rental customers.

According to Mr. Chu Phat Dat, Director of the self-drive car rental platform Ibookcar, in addition to self-drive car rental apps such as Chungxe, Sigo, Mioto, Goxe..., recently, companies operating in the field of tourism transportation have also joined this market, so the competitive pressure is very high. Not to mention, the number of personal cars participating in self-drive rental has also increased quite sharply, currently accounting for about 50% -60% of the total number of cars on the market. That explains why Zoomcar, a self-drive car rental application from India, has just announced that it will stop operating in the Vietnamese market due to the difficult business conditions of the market in general and the self-drive car rental service in particular.
