In June 2023, while he was an 11th grade student at Phu Binh High School ( Thai Nguyen province), student Truong Huy Bach was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (a type of blood cancer) during a visit to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
Receiving the news of his serious illness, Bach fell into extreme pain and confusion. At the age of 17, it was too much of a shock for the boy. But thanks to the love and constant encouragement from his family, Bach courageously embarked on the challenging treatment journey.

After nearly a year of treatment at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, and four rounds of chemotherapy, Bach was forced to put his academic results on hold. However, even in his hospital bed, the male student still diligently studied his lessons, not allowing himself to give up.
Bach shared that every time he picks up a pen to solve a problem, he feels like he gets more energy, temporarily forgetting the pain and fatigue that lasts after each chemotherapy session.
In particular, when returning to school in the 2024-2025 school year, Bach made constant efforts to catch up with the new curriculum.
10X shared that he always makes the most of his time in class, focusing on listening to lectures and trying to memorize knowledge on the spot. When he has time, the male student proactively asks teachers to explain more about the content he has not really grasped.
For Math - his favorite subject, Bach took online courses to expand and consolidate his knowledge. For Physics and Chemistry, the male student relied entirely on in-class learning combined with self-study at home. His proactive spirit and good self-study ability helped Bach gradually regain his study rhythm after a long interruption due to medical treatment.

Despite only having 1 year to get acquainted with the new general education program, Huy Bach still achieved impressive results in the 2025 high school graduation exam with 9 points in Math; 9.25 in Physics and 9.75 in Chemistry and 8 points in Literature. The total score for block A00 was 28 points. With this result, Bach became the runner-up of block A00 at Phu Binh High School.
Ms. Tran Linh, a teacher at Phu Binh High School, shared that Bach took the graduation exam in the first year of applying the 2018 general education program. The male student only had access to this program from the second semester of grade 12, but thanks to his diligence and determination, Bach quickly caught up with the completely new amount of knowledge.
"When he found out his exam score, he texted me to thank me. But actually, the person who should be thanking me is me. Thank you to students like Bach - those who have fueled his journey of perseverance with the teaching profession. Thank you for not giving up, for persevering to the end," Ms. Linh said emotionally.
MSc. Phan Thi Thuy Trang, working at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that right after knowing the exam results, in addition to informing her family, Bach also shared the results with the doctors and nurses - the people who have always been by her side to take care of her, encourage her and give her strength throughout her treatment journey.
"Normally, patients receiving chemotherapy are very tired. Many people are so tired that they can't eat or drink. But Bach can receive chemotherapy in the morning and then wake up at night to study. The hospital's doctors and nurses are all impressed with Bach because of his diligence and eagerness to learn," said MSc. Trang.

With a total score of 28 in block A00, the male student expressed his wish to study Mathematics Pedagogy at Hanoi National University of Education.
“My dream is to become a Math teacher. I feel that I am suitable for teaching and want to research and learn more about Mathematics,” Bach shared.
The story of student Truong Huy Bach overcoming illness and achieving his dream, when shared on social media, touched the hearts of many people. Many words of encouragement and admiration were sent to the male student - who turned his hospital bed into a classroom, and his determination became a source of inspiration for many people.
