The circulation of storm Matmo caused heavy rain, causing widespread flooding at Thai Nguyen University, University of Science , and Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry. Students were unable to move or access food and clean water.

Minh Duy pancake shop, located in the middle of the university area, is one of the few places still operating, becoming a place to support students with charging phones and free food during the rainy and flooded days.

The restaurant has two locations, one of which is still flooded and cannot operate. Understanding the difficulties caused by network, power and water outages, as soon as the water receded at the first location, Mr. Duy proactively cleaned the kitchen, started the generator, prepared electrical outlets and cooking ingredients, and served free food to students in the area.

At 9am on October 8th, Mr. Duy opened his shop to welcome students. As soon as he opened the shop, many students came to charge their phones and eat. The shop was operating at full capacity, from morning to late at night, both the owner and staff enthusiastically served and supported the students.

When the restaurant was crowded and there were no spare ingredients, Mr. Duy ran to buy more food while the roads were flooded. Normally, the distance he traveled was only 2 km, but yesterday he had to take a 7 km detour, taking 30 minutes because the roads were flooded.

The dormitory and surrounding boarding houses were submerged in water, many students considered Minh Duy pancake shop as a temporary support to help them overcome the difficult period, while shops and supermarkets in the area were all closed.

As a first-year student, witnessing historic flooding for the first time, Thuy - a student at the University of Science ( Thai Nguyen University) felt safer and more secure at the restaurant than when staying alone in a rented room.

The timely support of Mr. Duy and the staff of the restaurant was known and received many thanks from students in the area. During the time when floods disrupted daily life, the cooperation of individuals and local businesses helped students stabilize their spirits and quickly return to normal life.
