National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with IPU President Tulia Ackson

On the afternoon of April 6th (local time), within the framework of attending the 150th General Assembly of the Inter -Parliamentary Union (IPU-150) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with IPU President Tulia Ackson.

At the meeting, IPU President Tulia Ackson expressed her gratitude. Speaker of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man Having taken the time to attend IPU-150, I highly appreciate that since joining the IPU, Vietnam has always been an active member, and the successful hosting of the 132nd IPU Conference in 2015 and the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference in 2023 made a strong impression on the parliamentarians, especially regarding the meticulous organization, the content of the discussions, and the hospitality of the people; in IPU conferences and discussions, Vietnam has always been cited as a prime example of promoting gender equality, empowering women, and empowering young parliamentarians; I expressed my admiration for Vietnam's development achievements, including ensuring social justice and welfare for the people, and was particularly impressed by the decision to waive all tuition fees for students from preschool to high school in public schools nationwide.

Sharing the achievements in socio-economic development and efforts to ensure social security and improve people's lives in the past, as well as major development directions for the future, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also expressed his appreciation for the important role and contributions of the IPU in implementing IPU programs and strategies, promoting cooperation between the IPU and member parliaments, and enhancing the role and voice of parliaments and parliamentarians; he thanked Ms. Tulia Ackson for her kind sentiments and active support for the country and the Vietnamese National Assembly, contributing to promoting Vietnam-IPU cooperation.

Affirming that the Vietnamese National Assembly always supports the role of the IPU and multilateralism, the Speaker of the National Assembly reiterated Vietnam's outstanding contributions, especially in hosting many important conferences in the past, and requested the IPU President's support for Vietnam to host future IPU events, further promote Vietnam-IPU cooperation, actively implement the IPU's Action Strategy 2022-2026, focusing on innovation and digital transformation, and provide policy advice, promotion and monitoring of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals to the Vietnamese National Assembly.

IPU President Tulia Ackson also shared that, as a Tanzanian, whose country has good relations with Vietnam through both party and government channels, she hopes that the Tanzanian Parliament and the Vietnamese National Assembly will strengthen cooperation in the future, especially by increasing contact and exchanges between specialized agencies of the two legislative bodies, between parliamentarians, and sharing legislative experiences between the two countries.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man thanked and requested that Ms. Tulia Ackson, in her capacity as Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, continue to actively promote Vietnam-Tanzania cooperation and support Vietnam's participation in events and activities of the African Union.

Both sides agreed to work closely together to further promote Vietnam-IPU cooperation in the coming period.

On this occasion, the IPU President cordially invited National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in July 2025.
