The pre-released film is expected to be titled: "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." CNN (USA) reported that the new film will focus on the monster Gollum.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed at a press conference on May 8 that the filmmakers of the original "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, director Peter Jackson, and partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, are producing the new film and will be involved in every stage.
The project is currently in early script development by Walsh and Boyens, along with two other writers.
In a press release from Warner Bros, actor Andy Serkis will direct the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum", and he will also voice the character Gollum.
Director Peter Jackson's first "Lord of the Rings" trilogy starred Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin and Cate Blanchett. The trilogy was nominated for 30 Oscars and won 17, including best picture for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in 2003.
In addition, all three films were nominated at the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. These films are based on the novel "Lord of the Rings" by author JRR Tolkien.
