For many years, spontaneous aquaculture has occurred in the Vung Ro Bay area, Hoa Xuan Commune, Dak Lak Province. This unplanned development has led to many serious consequences, especially marine environmental pollution. Notably, the amount of plastic waste from aquaculture and fishermen's daily activities is increasing, directly affecting the coastal ecosystem and the beauty of the bay area.
This situation raises an urgent need for more effective management measures, while raising public awareness about protecting the marine environment and developing fisheries in a sustainable, nature-friendly direction.
Every day, aquaculture farmers often store food for lobsters and cobia in plastic bags. On average, each aquaculture raft can release about 100 bags into the environment. In addition, a lot of household waste is also released into the environment.
Environmental pollution from aquaculture waste can have a negative impact on the marine ecosystem. After merging and operating the two-level local government, the Hoa Xuan commune government identified this as a key task that needs to be implemented. With political determination and socialized resources, Hoa Xuan commune organized free garbage collection in Vung Ro Bay. On average, two boats can collect 3 to 4 tons of garbage per day, bringing it ashore for sorting and treatment. Not only has the environment become green again, but people's awareness has also gradually changed.
Vung Ro Bay area is planned as a Marine Reserve, therefore, Hoa Xuan Commune Party Committee has issued a Directive, mobilizing the entire political system and socialized resources to implement an environmental cleaning plan.
With the joint efforts of the government and people, the environment of Vung Ro Bay is gradually improving significantly. The sea water is clearer, the coral reefs and coastal ecosystems are gradually recovering. This is a positive signal for the formation of the "Vung Ro Marine Reserve", creating an ecological highlight for the environment and tourism of Dak Lak province in the future.
