Propaganda documents on prevention and control of thalassemia.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), Thalassemia is a hereditary hemolytic anemia or congenital hemolytic anemia. The main manifestation of the disease is anemia. This is one of the most common genetic abnormalities in the world.
According to HCDC, 7% of the world's population currently carries the gene for thalassemia; 1.1% of couples are at risk of having children with the disease or carrying the gene. Vietnam is one of the countries with a high rate of disease and disease genes.
HCDC recommends that people should immediately go to a medical facility for examination if they see any of the following symptoms: Fatigue, weakness, shallow breathing, yellow skin, dark urine, bone deformities, slow physical development, enlarged spleen. There are risk factors such as: Having someone in the family with Thalassemia or living in an area with a high rate of the disease.
To limit Thalassemia, HCDC recommends that people need premarital counseling to be examined and tested for Thalassemia before marriage. If both people have the same Thalassemia and get married, they should be counseled before planning to get pregnant.
If a couple carrying the same type of Thalassemia becomes pregnant, they should be diagnosed prenatally when the pregnancy is 12 - 18 weeks, at specialized medical facilities.
