After more than 2 years of restoration, Hai Van Quan relic has a new look, attracting many tourists to visit. However, to exploit tourism effectively, the locality must have many solutions.

Attractive destination
At the end of 2021, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center coordinated with the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City to launch a project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of Hai Van Quan relic. The total investment of the project is more than 42 billion VND from the budget of Da Nang City and Thua Thien Hue Province. The project has been put into tourism exploitation since August 1, and to date, Hai Van Quan relic attracts hundreds of visitors every day.
According to the record, after being restored, the tourist attraction has a guide board and information about the relic in Vietnamese - English to serve visitors who want to learn about the history of the construction. Right at the entrance, visitors can visit Hai Van Quan using a 3D digital map: just use a smartphone connected to the check-in board with NFC chip (short-range wireless technology) at the tourist attraction, visitors can access 9 important locations of Hai Van Quan and explore according to their preferences.
While admiring the scenery, tourist Beloeil-Ozoul (French) nodded and said: “This is quite an interesting destination. Standing from Hai Van Quan, I can see both Hue and Da Nang. Looking towards Thua Thien Hue is the majestic Hai Van Pass, looking towards Da Nang is the modern coastal city. When the tour guide explained the history of this place, I found it even more interesting. If this place charges a reasonable entrance fee, I think tourists would be willing to support it because it also contributes to the work of preserving and maintaining the relics.”
For Nabi (student, from Thailand), sharing that checking in at Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan was a wonderful thing for her and her friends during their trip to Vietnam. After choosing Da Nang as a stopover in the Central region, she learned about and found out about this relic. Nabi excitedly said: “We bought Ao Dai and Vietnamese flags to have the most memorable photos. This is the first time we have come here, so impressive and surprising”.

How to exploit effectively?
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, said that for travel agencies, including a certain point in a tour or route is based on supply and demand because the needs of tourists are the deciding factor in the destination. Hai Van Quan is a destination that is both historical, cultural and naturally unique. For example, in terms of natural factors, the climate between Hue and Da Nang is very different this season; sometimes it is cold and cloudy in Hue, but in Da Nang, the sky is clear and the clouds are gone. Moreover, Hai Van Quan has beautiful scenery, and when tourists enjoy it, they will have beautiful photos to commemorate the trip. However, to exploit tourism in Hai Van Quan, the relevant agencies must promote and include it in the local tourism promotion program. It is important to note that the construction of accompanying services at the destination (exhibition house, additional check-in points, souvenir kiosks must be invested in harmony with the architecture of the relic...).
According to Le Tan Thanh Tung, Deputy General Director of Vitraco Da Nang Company, there are currently many destinations for tourists to choose from, including places that do not charge fees. Therefore, charging fees at a destination needs to be calculated reasonably, does it bring any benefits to tourists or not? To do so, organizing a professional reception and explanation (directly or automatically) for tourists to experience the destination and feel that the destination is truly valuable, or a clean and beautiful toilet system, without soliciting customers is also something that tourists are particularly interested in...
According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City, during the period when tickets are not sold, the units directly managing the relic are the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District. The Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue Province and the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City perform the function of state management of the Hai Van Quan national relic according to regulations. During the period of selling tickets (expected in 2025), the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District will implement the principle of rotating management for 3 years (the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will manage and exploit the relic for the first 3 years, and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District will manage and exploit the relic for the next 3 years).
To exploit effectively, the two localities have plans to organize or jointly organize activities to propagate, promote, display, and introduce the relic; research, collect, document, and archive documents on tangible cultural heritage and related intangible cultural heritage to serve the preservation, restoration, and embellishment of the relic; attach QR codes to each item to meet the needs of people and tourists to learn about the works. At the same time, guide and explain to tourists visiting the relic; organize or jointly organize tourism activities to serve the public visiting, researching, studying, and entertaining at the relic.
Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of Da Nang Museum, acknowledged that the coordination of management and exploitation of Hai Van Quan national relic is aimed at preserving and promoting the historical - cultural and natural values associated with the relic. Developing Hai Van Quan tourism has truly made a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city. This is an indispensable stop on the "Central Heritage Road", contributing to improving the lives of local people.
