Amateur photographers are also in high demand, especially during peak seasons like Christmas, holidays, and New Year's when the demand for photography increases.
Amateur photography, reduce some financial pressure
Starting from her passion for capturing small moments, Nhat Vi (21 years old, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) opened Bong Benh photo studio. Each time she took a photo, she charged 250,000 VND. The highest month Vi ever received was about 6 million VND, at the end of the year when everyone was preparing for Tet. Thanks to that, Vi had enough money to cover her own travel and daily food expenses without needing support from her family.
These days, La Hue’s (21 years old, Binh Duong province) amateur photography job is busier. After finishing her internship, Hue decided to take on more low-cost photo shoots in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong. Hue charges between 300,000 and 350,000 VND per shoot, not including transportation or entrance fees at the shooting location if there is a fee.
The girl boasted that thanks to that job, she has almost stopped asking her parents for money for a long time. The money she earns helps her cover all her living expenses and personal shopping needs. “Thanks to this job, I have significantly reduced my financial pressure, because when I was in high school or just starting university, I relied on my parents for everything,” La Hue laughed.
Although only 17 years old, Thien Phu (17 years old, Hue City, Thua Thien Hue Province) has earned money from his passion for photography in his spare time. Phu said that depending on the different requests of customers, he charges a few hundred thousand dong for one photo shoot. For big events such as Hue Festival, 2024 National U20 5×5 Basketball Championship, Phu accepts to take photos for millions.
To supplement his graphic design major, Huy Truc (21 years old, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) took on a photography job. In addition to earning extra income, Truc said it helped him accumulate knowledge and experience in photography that he could apply to his future career. He revealed that there was a time when he earned up to 19 million VND a month by taking photos for hire for customers.
Although it is a hobby, amateur photography helps me take the initiative to pay for my own books and learning materials, satisfy my passion, and gradually improve my skills and expertise significantly through customer feedback after each shoot.

Promote to more people
To attract more customers, Khanh Ly (21 years old, Thu Duc City) also created a fanpage “Two Leopard Photo Studio” on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to promote her semi-professional photography services. Ly also asked her friends to share and introduce more so that more customers would know about her.
Similarly, Nhat Vi also created a fanpage “Bong Benh Photo Studio” to post photos taken to promote the shop. She also hung around groups to listen, leave comments, introduce services so that anyone in need can find them, and then used her personal page on the internet to promote this interesting part-time job.
Huy Truc chose to share his photos and short clips on TikTok. Initially, customers came to Truc from photo shoots, but later many people knew and found Truc from his TikTok videos. Not only filming or taking photos, Truc also received design orders, which is the future job of his major, and his income also increased significantly.
Thuy Nhi (16 years old) excitedly shared that she only spent about 300,000 VND to have a quality and quite satisfactory set of Ao Dai photos for Tet when she booked an amateur photographer to take them. “I feel satisfied because right from the time I booked the appointment, I was given very detailed advice from the photo shoot to choosing a suitable location. I was able to edit 15 photos and borrow some accessories to take photos together without having to pay any fees, so I was very happy,” Nhi laughed.
First shoot
After a month of finishing her internship, Khanh Ly started taking photos for others and was impressed by her first photoshoot for a group of students. She was a bit worried because it was her first time taking photos of a large group. However, throughout the photoshoot, the girl worked silently with the mindset of a friend who wanted to preserve all the moments for her friends.
Luckily, everyone was very enthusiastic and cooperative. When receiving the photos, they gave many compliments, wished for good sales, and sent a small additional fee in addition to the agreed amount, helping Ly feel more confident in her amateur photography skills. "I feel more motivated to continue. After each photoshoot, I will find my own limitations and always try to improve my skills," Ly said.
