Transferring the police to investigate the case of the Australian English Center collecting billions and then closing down

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has transferred legal documents of the Australian English Center to the Police Investigation Agency after parents suspected that the "investor had fled".

On May 19, according to information from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the unit has just reported to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City about the incident of the Australian International Language Center (AIES) and Australian International Language Center 1 suddenly closing after collecting 6.5 billion VND in tuition fees from students.

The Department of Education and Training has also transferred the legal documents of the two above-mentioned centers to the Investigation Police Agency (PC03), Ho Chi Minh City Police. At the same time, it has compiled relevant documents and evidence to consider suspendingeducational activities of the two above-mentioned centers and recommending Ho Chi Minh City Police to revoke the seals according to regulations.

According to the Department of Education and Training, the investor of the two centers above is Duy Khang Education - Training Company Limited, with Mr. Ho Dang Duy as director.

Australia Foreign Language Center (address 182-184-186 Le Van Viet, Tang Nhon Phu B Ward, Thu Duc City) was established under Decision No. 248 and was permitted to operate education under Decision No. 640 in 2023, recognizing the Center Director with Ms. Tran My Ngoc, term 2023-2028, in Decision No. 759.

Australia Foreign Language Center 1 (address 729-731 Kha Van Can, Linh Tay Ward, Thu Duc City) was established under Decision No. 375 and was permitted to operate education under Decision No. 907, recognizing the Center Director for Ms. Tran My Ngoc, term 2023-2028, in Decision No. 1080.

Since being licensed, the Australian Language Center and Australian Language Center 1 have operated relatively stably; made periodic reports and attended training sessions organized by the Department of Education and Training.

According to the first quarter report of 2025, Australia Language Center has 7 Vietnamese teachers (no foreign teachers), 4 Vietnamese staff, one director, enrolling 14 classes with 172 students. Australia Language Center 1 has 5 Vietnamese teachers (no foreign teachers), 4 Vietnamese staff, one director, enrolling 12 classes with 144 students.

The Department has not received reports of suspension of operations from these two centers, nor has it received reports from the centers about information about "investors fleeing".

Previously, on May 16, many parents of the Australian Language Center were confused when they could not contact the director and both facilities were closed.

According to parents, the center announced it would be temporarily closed from May 8 to 14 for repairs after heavy rains, but has not reopened yet. According to the list, about 200 parents have paid more than VND6.5 billion for their children to attend long-term courses for up to 3 consecutive years.
