Digital transformation, an opportunity for collective economy to transform

Việt NamViệt Nam14/11/2023

Digitizing production, business and service processes, applying technology to trace origins, using e-commerce to increase business efficiency, using fast, compact and accurate electronic payment technologies... helps the collective economy develop quickly and sustainably.

Currently, many cooperatives in the province have proactively approached the transformation to a new cooperative model, flexibly applying information technology, accessing digital technology , and forming a valuable agricultural value chain.

Bright spot in digital transformation

Recently, the Hoa Vang fragrant rice brand of An Nghiep Agricultural Cooperative (Tuy An district) has become known to many people not only as the first rice product of the collective economy sector to complete the value chain from production, processing to consumption, but also because this product has achieved the first provincial-level 3-star OCOP certification in Phu Yen. The name of An Nghiep Agricultural Cooperative has been affirmed and the view of collective economy and cooperatives has gradually changed.

According to Mr. Tran Tan Khoa, Director of An Nghiep Agricultural Cooperative, building a brand is difficult, but maintaining and developing products is even more difficult. Therefore, the Cooperative has proactively developed a specific plan to maintain and expand consumption contracts. In addition to quality, the Cooperative has also improved designs and sought ways to bring products to digital platforms, gradually creating a foothold in the e-commerce market.

“Currently, the Hoa Vang fragrant rice of the Cooperative has a QR code, a barcode and is permitted by the Provincial People's Committee to use geographical indications on the product. These are important factors for customers and consumers anywhere to grasp the Cooperative's products by scanning the code with a smartphone to learn about the quality and origin when buying the product,” Mr. Khoa shared.

As for Dong Din General Agricultural Trading Cooperative (Phu Hoa district), while other units only invest in 1 product per type of agricultural product, the Cooperative invests in a processing plant with an automatic packaging line to develop up to 13 products from 3 agricultural products. The purpose of the Cooperative is to increase market access opportunities and optimize existing advantages.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Chuong, Director of this cooperative said: “The products of the cooperative all apply traceability technology, have been certified ISO 9001-2025, HACCP and are granted export quotas to Russia. The cooperative has also built its own youtube channel and commercial website to introduce to customers. In addition, the cooperative makes the most of the ability to interact on social networking sites such as Facebook, Zalo as well as e-commerce sites including http://nangtamnongsanviet.com, vcamart.vn... to bring products to domestic and foreign consumers”.

Efforts to change to break through

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, last year, the unit supported cooperatives to access 4.0 technology applications in production and business activities and gradually brought agricultural products and OCOP products of cooperatives to e-commerce trading floors, such as ocop.vn, https://htx.cooplink.com.vn/connect, http://sanocop.vn. At the same time, the department coordinated with the Provincial Post Office and Viettel Post to sign a cooperation agreement to bring agricultural products of cooperatives to the trading floors of these two units. Many products of the cooperative have been available on shelves in supermarkets and stores such as: lotus powder, pineapple cake, pineapple juice, Hoa Vang fragrant rice, silkworm wine.

However, there are still many cooperatives operating in manual and traditional methods. Some cooperative managers are still afraid of change and access to information technology in management and operations, leading to slow digital transformation, lacking strategy and specific actions.

“Grasping this practical need, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has organized training and guided cooperatives and agricultural cooperatives on knowledge about digital transformation in the agricultural sector; management of planting and farming areas, traceability in linking production and consumption of agricultural products according to the value chain; instructions on using the hSpace App for digital transformation,” said Mr. Nguyen Duc Thang, Head of the Provincial Department of Rural Development.

Directly participating in the training, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Minh, Director of Hoa Dong Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tay Hoa district) said: Applying digital transformation not only solves the problem of business administration, gaining trust from consumers, but also brings many other benefits such as reducing labor, improving productivity and product quality. Thanks to that, the Cooperative has been able to sell its products at a price 10% higher than other products.

According to Mr. Dam Ngoc Phi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ea Bar Agricultural and Ecological Services Cooperative (Song Hinh district), “The application of digital transformation will facilitate management, reduce costs, increase profits, and especially increase prestige with customers. The application of digital transformation also helps to store records conveniently and safely, reducing paperwork and human resources. In addition, the application of digital transformation also creates transparency and trust for customers and customers can know the process from production to processing”.

To facilitate localities and cooperatives, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to direct, urge and guide localities to focus on propaganda, organize training and coaching on digital transformation for management staff and members of cooperatives; organize study tours, exchange experiences and pilot models of cooperatives applying digital technology and successful digital transformation to evaluate, draw lessons and replicate widely.
