Following the direction of the Ministry of Health and Project 06 on the development of population data applications, electronic identification and authentication, the An Giang health sector is gradually realizing the national digitalization goal. Digital transformation is not just about equipping with machinery or digitizing paper records; the core objective is to bring convenience, reduce the burden of time for people, and help the health team focus more on professional healthcare work.

An Giang has implemented a comprehensive set of solutions, building an interconnected healthcare database, adopting cashless payments, and digitizing patient reception and management processes. This is a journey requiring perseverance and close coordination among all parties, from the Department of Health and local healthcare facilities to technology solution providers. Within this overall picture, the emergence of specialized digital platforms plays a crucial role as an extension, helping the healthcare system operate more smoothly and transparently.

The eMed+ healthcare application platform is being widely piloted in An Giang province. The application allows people to schedule appointments remotely, receive appointment time notifications, check in quickly before their visit, and use a dedicated priority lane. Not intended to replace human services, eMed+ plays a role in remotely managing patient flow, optimizing the reception process, and increasing transparency in health data.

Dr. Nguyen Van Hung, Director of Chau Doc General Hospital, said: “Every day, the hospital examines and treats a large number of patients from within and outside the province, as well as Cambodian citizens. The hospital always prioritizes innovation in service. Digital transformation, with the patient at the center, from registration and examination to payment and post-treatment monitoring, must be interconnected to reduce waiting times, paperwork, and pressure on medical staff. Previously, there was a backlog of patients in the mornings, and reception staff also faced a lot of pressure. Since implementing eMed+, the hospital has fundamentally solved this problem.”

Visiting Chau Doc General Hospital for a medical check-up, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang said: “Previously, a check-up could take an entire morning, but since booking through eMed+, I only need to arrive 15 minutes before my appointment to complete the registration process quickly and efficiently. Afterward, I was guided to the ‘green technology lane,’ a priority path reserved for those who have booked online, avoiding the crowds at the reception and cashier counters.”

Currently, the "green stream of technology" model is achieving initial success at Chau Doc General Hospital, Chau Phu Medical Center, An Giang Eye - Ear, Nose, Throat - Dental Hospital, and several health stations in various communes. Digital transformation is not limited to provincial-level hospitals but is strongly penetrating grassroots healthcare. This is a crucial step in extending digital healthcare coverage to every commune and ward, ensuring that people in rural areas also benefit from technology in the most equitable and user-friendly way.

Dr. Duong Tong Chinh, Head of the General Planning Department at An Giang Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, and Maxillofacial Hospital, stated: “As a provincial-level specialized hospital, we receive a large number of patients from neighboring communes and wards both within and outside the province. To reduce waiting times and facilitate patients, we have implemented solutions using tools such as scheduling appointments via phone or the hospital's website. Additionally, the hospital utilizes eMed+ for online registration via a smartphone app, one of the four components of Project 06.”

Mr. Dang Van Hoa, a resident of Long Xuyen ward, shared: “We clearly feel the convenience of the eMed+ application. It not only helps reduce the workload for doctors and medical staff but also enhances the experience for patients. People and patients don't need to go to the hospital; they can schedule appointments, choose doctors and suitable time slots with just a few taps from home…”

Digital transformation in healthcare in An Giang is currently in its initial stages of achievement, with the long-term goal of building an interconnected and unified data network. With practical changes like eMed+, technology is proving its true value by placing "the people's needs" at the center and will become an effective tool to help An Giang residents access healthcare services more easily, quickly, and equitably.
