Green movement in the heart of the city: Smoke-free bus route 'Vietcombank Green Bus'
(Chinhphu.vn) - The smokeless bus route "Vietcombank Green Bus" will be deployed from June 2025, the next step in the journey of implementing the ESG strategy that Vietnam's number 1 bank is steadfastly pursuing.

Vietcombank Green Bus is an important milestone in the journey towards sustainable development.
On June 12, 2025, the Vietcombank Green Bus internal bus route opening ceremony took place at Vietcombank Headquarters. The operation of the internal bus route not only improves work organization efficiency and saves time, but also contributes to reducing personal travel pressure, gradually forming a green - clean - safe - convenient working environment, while demonstrating Vietcombank's determination to spread a modern, professional and environmentally friendly corporate culture.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Hoang Tung - Deputy General Director of Vietcombank shared: "The opening of the first internal bus route - Vietcombank Green Bus is an important milestone in Vietcombank's journey towards sustainable development for the community. Vietcombank Green Bus will contribute to spreading a green, environmentally friendly lifestyle, helping to convey the message of an image of Vietcombank close to customers and the community, a bank that is always a pioneer, aiming for sustainable development, professional, dedicated and full of humanity".
From June 2,Vietcombank officially operates the first internal electric bus route in Hanoi . The route connecting the bank's working locations includes: Century Building, 458 Minh Khai - 72 Tran Hung Dao - 32 Hang Bai - Head Office (TSC) 198 Tran Quang Khai and vice versa. The bus operates two-way from Monday to Friday with the time frame from 7:00 to 18:30.

By June 15, 2025, the second route will continue to be exploited, expanding the service area from 11B Cat Linh building to TSC. This route passes through the following points: 11B Cat Linh - 32 Hang Bai - 72 Tran Hung Dao - TSC 198 Tran Quang Khai and vice versa. The latest afternoon time slot departs at 6:30 p.m. from TSC to the points, more convenient for staff with flexible work schedules.
With this initiative, Vietcombank has become the first bank in Vietnam to deploy an internal electric bus model to transport its staff. Vietcombank Green Bus is optimally designed to serve the needs of efficient, economical and environmentally friendly travel, while reducing dependence on personal vehicles using fossil fuels. The initiative contributes to forming green habits in the entire system of more than 24,000 Vietcombank employees, affirming the optimal operating mindset - reducing emissions, saving resources and reducing urban traffic pressure. It is also a concrete demonstration of the commitment to sustainable development starting from within Vietcombank.
ESG is not on paper
The first green Vietcombank electric bus route rolling out in Hanoi is part of the overall ESG strategy that the bank has steadfastly pursued for many years.
From the successful issuance of the first VND2,000 billion green bond in Vietnam, to expanding the green credit portfolio and cooperating with international organizations such as JBIC, AFD, KFW, Vietcombank is leading the sustainable finance trend in the region. In 2024, green credit at Vietcombank continues to expand, with outstanding loans for green projects accounting for 3.3% of total outstanding loans, focusing on renewable energy, clean energy, sustainable water management, waste treatment, pollution prevention and sustainable transportation. The bank is also ranked in the Top 20 enterprises with the best Vietnam Sustainability Index (VNSI) by the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE).
Not only stopping at credit activities, Vietcombank also greens its internal operating system. 100% of Vietcombank's headquarters and large buildings apply energy-saving solutions. Notably, headquarters such as Vietcombank Tower in Ho Chi Minh City have achieved Leed Platinum standards - the gold standard in green construction. Along with a series of actions such as digitizing processes, saving energy, using recycled materials in office design..., most of Vietcombank's individual customer transactions have been carried out via digital channels, contributing to reducing resource consumption, reducing customer travel and limiting the use of physical documents. In 2024, the total CO₂ emissions per employee at the bank have decreased by nearly 3% compared to the previous year.
The internal electric bus route is a clear demonstration of how Vietcombank implements ESG: quietly, consistently and with strategic depth. Sustainable development, for Vietcombank, is not based on slogans or balance sheets, but starts with each specific operational choice.
As Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietcombank once emphasized: "As the leading commercial bank in Vietnam, Vietcombank is committed to accompanying the Government and the State Bank in implementing the Green Banking Project, aiming for zero net emissions by 2050". With the goal of being in the Top 200 largest banking and financial groups in the world by 2030 and becoming a model of ESG practice in Vietnam, Vietcombank has been gradually realizing the strategy with specific actions.
