At the end of the year, the demand for capital for production, business and consumption activities increases, customers have a great need to borrow from commercial banks and financial companies. However, customers need to be vigilant to avoid falling into the "trap" of fraud by subjects impersonating commercial banks and financial companies.
Specifically, taking advantage of the psychology of people who need money for business, spending, or want to borrow large amounts of money quickly, scammers have created websites, applications, social media accounts, and bank accounts impersonating financial companies.
The fake channels of the above subjects are advertised on social networking platforms such as Zalo, Facebook, TikTok... with posts inviting unsecured loans with attractive content such as "low interest rates, simple loan procedures, no need to meet in person, bad debt can still borrow, only need ID card/CCCD and have a bank account/ATM card".
According to the reporter's records, many people in need of loans have lost money unjustly when scammers used this impersonation trick. In early August 2023, Mr. MT (living in Ho Chi Minh City) received a call from a stranger claiming to be a bank employee inviting him to borrow money with a consumer interest rate of only 0.7%/month. Seeing the reasonable interest rate and being told that the loan would be disbursed immediately, Mr. MT trusted him, applied online and transferred a service fee of 22 million VND to get the disbursement.
But after transferring money to the scammer, Mr. MT did not receive the loan as expected, but also received a notification of a processing record, impersonating the bank created by the scammer with the reason that he had made a mistake on the system, the loan process was canceled, and the loan was "frozen". At this time, Mr. MT realized he had been scammed.
In another case, Ms. Thanh, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, said that at the end of June 2023, an acquaintance introduced her to the phone number of an employee claiming to be a bank credit officer. Ms. Thanh contacted this self-proclaimed employee to complete the loan application process with an interest rate of 0.8%/month and was tricked into transferring the application fee. It was only when she did not see the loan disbursed that she realized she had "fallen into the trap".
In both cases, customers access fake websites to fill out loan information.
According to a representative of Home Credit finance company, the scammers' method of fraud is often to ask customers to provide personal information such as full name, phone number, photo of ID card/CCCD, portrait photo to serve the purpose of making loan applications. After that, these subjects intervene in fake websites and applications to notify customers to provide incorrect personal information such as incorrect ID card/CCCD number, disbursement account number... After that, customers are required to transfer an amount of money in advance to the subject's account to be supported to resolve and make the loan.
If the above request is followed, the customer will not only lose the money transferred to the subject, not receive the loan amount, but also have their personal information stolen and face the risk that the subjects will continue to use the customer's personal information to serve other illegal activities.
"We do not require customers to transfer money to get a loan under any circumstances," a Home Credit representative affirmed.
