Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training show that at the primary level, 28% of localities nationwide only choose one textbook for one subject, of which 3% of provinces only choose one textbook for one subject in all subjects, 25% of provinces choose only one textbook for one subject (except English and Information Technology). The number of provinces with some subjects choosing more than one textbook for each subject accounts for 18%. There are 54% of provinces and cities where all subjects choose more than one textbook for each subject.

This is the reality of textbook selection in 63 provinces and cities across the country, announced by Mr. Thai Van Tai, Director of the Department of Primary Education, Ministry of Education and Training this morning, May 25, at the training conference for reporters participating in training teachers of textbooks for grades 4, 8, and 11 of the Canh Dieu book series.

Current status of textbook selection in localities.

Mr. Tai said that all textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Training are organized by schools for teachers and professional groups to research and propose. The printing, distribution and supply of textbooks for grades 1, 2 and 3 ensure teaching and learning before the new school year, avoiding shortages and ensuring 100% of students.

"This shows the initial success of the policy of socializing textbook compilation," Mr. Tai commented.

Number of textbooks according to the new program approved for grades 1, 2 and 3.

There are currently 4 sets of textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Training, including Canh Dieu, Chan troi sang tao, Cung hoc de phat dung dung dung, Ket tri tri to doi doi and Vi su vat vat dai dan vien. Of these, there are 42 textbooks for grade 1, 30 textbooks for grade 2, and 36 textbooks for grade 3.

Unlike the old program which only had one set of textbooks, the new general education program implements a common program, socializing and diversifying textbooks. According to current regulations, the selection of textbooks is decided by the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities./.
