The Can Giuoc District Youth Union has established a team of young volunteers to raise awareness about preventing drowning accidents among children.

From 2024 to the present, the province has recorded 12 cases of child deaths due to drowning. The highest number of cases were among children aged 5-14. To minimize injuries and drowning accidents among children, provincial departments, agencies, and organizations continue to direct and implement various solutions to prevent and combat drowning accidents.

In particular, the Tan An City Youth Union has intensified its efforts to raise awareness among students and parents about preventing and combating drowning through social media platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, and various groups and forums. Videos demonstrating safe swimming skills and first aid for drowning victims are designed to be concise and visually appealing, making them easily accessible to students.

According to Nguyen Thanh Phuc, Secretary of the Tan An City Youth Union: “The City Youth Union develops highly interactive communication products, incorporating illustrative clips and skill challenges… Through this, we help children remember knowledge and develop skills to handle situations when encountering emergencies underwater.”

Recently, the Can Giuoc District Youth Union established a team of young volunteers to raise awareness about preventing drowning among children; at the same time, they coordinated with local authorities and relevant agencies to review dangerous areas such as ponds, lakes, riverbanks, water reservoirs, etc., to install warning signs, barriers, and deploy inspection and monitoring forces during the summer.

According to Vo Thi Ngoc Kieu, Deputy Secretary of the Can Giuoc District Youth Union: “Drowning is preventable. Through awareness campaigns, the District Youth Union hopes that parents will improve their understanding and proactively ensure the safety of their children, especially during the summer.”

Many primary and secondary schools in the province are also stepping up the organization of extracurricular thematic activities on drowning prevention, incorporating interactive games and simulated scenarios to help students easily absorb knowledge and develop skills in handling situations in aquatic environments.

Nguyen Ngoc My Tien (a student in class 6/1, Le Dai Duong Secondary School, Tan Tru district) shared: “Through this awareness session, I learned many useful things. I know to avoid playing near ponds and lakes, and when I see a friend in trouble, I should call an adult for help instead of trying to save myself if I don't know how to swim because it's very dangerous.”

Besides raising awareness, more and more parents are proactively enrolling their children in swimming lessons during the summer. Mr. Nguyen Gia Thinh (Ward 1, Tan An City) said: "After the swimming course, my child knows the basics of swimming and understands the risks that can be encountered in the water."

When departments, agencies, organizations, families, and society as a whole work together, summer will no longer be a source of worry but will become a meaningful, safe, and joyful time for children.
