For the past 2 months, a 27-year-old female patient has often had a hoarse voice, tiredness when speaking, and shortness of breath... so she went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a vocal cord cyst. The patient was advised to have surgery but asked to go home for further monitoring.

Recently, the patient's hoarseness increased, he had difficulty breathing and had a sore throat, so he went to Hung Vuong General Hospital for re-examination and treatment.

Upon admission to the hospital, the doctors performed the necessary paraclinical tests. The results of the ENT endoscopy concluded: Left vocal cord mass - left vocal cord cyst. After being consulted by the doctors about the condition and treatment method, the patient agreed to have a transverse endoscopy to remove the left vocal cord mass and perform pathological anatomy.

Two days after surgery, the patient's health is now completely stable, no pain medication is needed and he has been discharged from the hospital, following a daily care regimen as instructed by the doctors.

What is vocal cord tumor?

Vocal cord cysts , also known as vocal fold cysts, are benign, non-cancerous local lesions that often develop when a person overuses their voice. The incidence of vocal cord cysts is unknown but is rare. However, the incidence is much higher in people who use their voice as part of their occupation.

Warning signs of vocal cord tumors

Vocal cord cysts often cause a variety of symptoms that vary from person to person. Accordingly, some people with vocal cord cysts may experience symptoms such as: Hoarseness, sudden loss of voice, difficulty singing at a certain pitch, sore throat, fatigue...

However, a few patients go to the doctor because of difficulty breathing and speaking. This is a sign that the disease has progressed and the vocal cord cyst has grown large, causing compression of surrounding tissues.
