Mr. Vo Van Bay, Chairman of the Association, said: The Mekong Orchid Association was established under the Provincial Ornamental Plants Association (SVC), operating under the Association's charter and the Association's regulations. Currently, the Association has 20 members, who are orchid enthusiasts in and outside the province. In addition to regular activities, the Association will organize exchanges, learn experiences, exchange and buy and sell orchid varieties.

The association is headquartered in My Luong Hamlet, My Phong Commune, Dong Thap Province (the home of Chairman Vo Van Bay). According to Mr. Bay, the association's goal is to gather people who are passionate and love orchids to exchange, share experiences, care methods, propagation, and conservation of some rare orchid species. The association's desire is not only to help bring elegant pleasures to orchid growers and orchid players, but also to support each other in terms of varieties, support the consumption of orchid varieties, and decorative orchids to help improve income and living standards for members... In addition, the association also selects a number of outstanding works of members to participate in provincial and regional orchid competitions.

Mr. Huynh Ngoc Tham, a member of the association, has more than 10 years of passion for growing orchids: For those new to orchids, the most important step is choosing varieties and care techniques. The association members are ready to provide technical support to orchid players from choosing varieties that suit their budget to care techniques including: planting techniques, care, flowering treatment, orchid propagation... In addition, choosing a growing medium for orchids is very important, depending on the orchid variety, care conditions, weather...

It is known that on average, it takes about 300 flower pots to find a satisfactory pot to enter the contest. The winning work corresponds to the recognized skills of the orchid grower, which is the pride of the members and the entire Association. It is also the motivation for everyone to be more deeply attached to orchids, maintaining the flame of passion every day. According to the leader of the Provincial Association of Orchids, currently, due to economic development, the demand for orchids is constantly increasing, orchid growing is not only a hobby, but has become a real economic sector.

According to Mr. Vo Van Bay, the common goal of the Association, in addition to passion, is to create high and sustainable income from growing orchids, thereby helping us maintain our passion for orchids. The price of each orchid pot is as diverse as its species. Some pots cost only 200,000 - 300,000 VND, but some pots cost up to tens of millions of VND, meeting the needs of all customer groups.

In addition, to effectively demonstrate the talents of orchid growers, members of the association regularly participate in orchid competitions in and outside the province. Having just won second prize at the 2nd National Lucky Leaf Orchid Competition in 2025, Mr. Nguyen Nhat Hoang Nhan, a member of the association, excitedly said: “To successfully participate in the competition, many factors must be considered. In particular, it is necessary to consider the entirety of the leaves, stems, roots, and flowers. All must be clean, beautiful, healthy, with large flowers, meeting the strict standards of size and color set by experts. Any orchid that is “targeted” to participate in the competition will be separated and cared for according to a special “regime”, from fertilizer, medicine to the location where the tree is planted.”

MAKING ECONOMY FROM ORCHIDS

Having a knack for growing flowers and seeing the beauty of wild orchids, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, a member of the Mekong Orchid Association in Tan Thuan Binh Commune, decided to start a business with an orchid growing model. Mr. Nhan said that he used to work in credit for a bank in Ho Chi Minh City with a stable income, but because of his passion for orchids and then getting married, he decided to quit his job and start growing orchids since 2012, on a nearly 1,000 ^m2 garden of his family in Tan Thuan Binh Commune, Dong Thap Province.

Growing orchids, Mr. Nhan understands the beauty of orchids more and more and knows many people who share the same passion for growing orchids as him. Realizing that the demand for growing orchids in the market is increasing, Mr. Nhan switched to business, both satisfying his passion and making a living for his family. He buys orchids from foresters all over the country to grow and care for. In addition, he also imports flowers from other countries to grow and propagate. When buying, he takes care of the plants so that they grow well, bloom beautifully, then propagate them for preservation and commercialization.

The time spent playing with orchids helped Mr. Nhan gain basic knowledge about orchid species as well as experience and care techniques. Thanks to his diligence in both working and learning, after a short time, he was able to grasp the techniques of growing orchids, and was able to propagate and grow orchids to bloom to meet the needs of players.

“To facilitate orchid growing, I learn from famous artisans and visit many effective orchid growing models to learn the good and the bad to apply to my garden. Selling plants that have been propagated and buying back varieties that are not yet available, this is a way to nurture passion, to continue growing orchids and contribute to the preservation of precious orchid species” - Mr. Nhan shared.

According to Mr. Nhan, taking care of orchids is not difficult but requires the caretaker to be careful and meticulous. Especially for orchids with high economic value, they need to be taken care of more carefully. Visitors to the garden will see Mr. Nhan taking care of orchids carefully, designing the garden very neatly, cleanly, airy, the orchids are lush and always blooming, showing that the owner is highly skilled.

In the eyes of orchid lovers like Mr. Nguyen Nhat Hoang Nhan, Vinh Binh commune, Dong Thap province, each pot of plant has its own beauty - the beauty of life, of the future. Taking care of them from their tiny age until they bloom, he loves every plant. During his years of military service, through taking care of ornamental plants, including orchids in his unit, Mr. Hoang Nhan became more and more fond of ornamental plants. Therefore, after being discharged from the army, he always cherished the idea of ​​starting a business growing orchids.

Mr. Hoang Nhan shared, I started growing orchids in 2016. I spent time learning through friends, social networks, the Internet, at first the livestream only had a few views because the fanpage did not have many followers. I also encountered some problems with delivery because when transporting flowers to customers, the flowers wilted and broke. After many times like that, I gained a lot of experience, knowing how to pack and ship across the country, the flowers are still fresh, beautiful, and the plants are healthy when they reach customers.

When selling seedlings, he also enthusiastically guides the techniques, care, and fertilization and pesticides as he does and is willing to buy back the products when requested. Mr. Hoang Nhan shares his experience: “Growing orchids is not difficult, you just need to grasp the technical characteristics, but to be successful, you must have passion and find a reputable source of seedlings. Each type of flower has a different way of care, depending on how much humidity they like. But the results must be the same: beautiful flowers, long-lasting blooms, fragrant. These advantages attract visitors to the garden to visit and buy a lot. In general, I have a stable income from growing orchids. This source of income continues to nurture my passion for orchids in the long term”. Currently, Mr. Hoang Nhan's flower garden has more than 100 species of flowers, including many mutated types, lightning, striped leaves... The value of the orchid pots in the garden ranges from several hundred thousand dong to tens of millions of dong.
