Vietnam U23 with the current squad.
It can be said that one of Coach Troussier's biggest achievements in 2023 was discovering and boldly giving opportunities to young players. It's not by chance that the French coach took risks, ignoring dissenting opinions, to regularly use many players born in 2001 or later in the Vietnamese national team. Nor is it by chance that the "white wizard" proposed the formation of two U23 Vietnamese teams (one managed by Troussier himself and the other by Coach Hoang Anh Tuan), and then agreed with the VFF to send a new generation of 19-20 year old players to the ASIAD 19.
Dinh Bac ( left ) is playing better and better under coach Troussier.
More than anyone else, Coach Troussier understands what he's doing and what his goals are. And actively creating opportunities for young players to play as much as possible has brought about some "achievements." It's not difficult to see that the current national team is essentially comprised of the core players from the Vietnam U23 team. Commentator Ngo Quang Tung remarked: "All positions in the Vietnamese national team have young players, from center-back Tuan Tai, wing-back Minh Trong, midfielders Thai Son and Van Khang, and striker Dinh Bac… For young players, the most important thing is to play a lot. When they play a lot, especially in the national team, they will mature faster."
" GOAL FOR THE OLYMPIC TASKS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT"
The 2024 AFC U-23 Championship also serves as the qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics. The top three teams in the AFC U-23 Championship will secure direct qualification to France this summer, while the fourth-placed team will play an intercontinental play-off against a representative from Africa. Vietnam's U-23 team is in Group D with Uzbekistan, Kuwait, and Malaysia. Theoretically, advancing to the next round is achievable for Coach Troussier's team. However, reaching the Olympic qualification spot is another matter entirely.
According to commentator Quang Tung, achieving the Olympic goal is extremely difficult for the Vietnam U23 team, but not without hope: "This U23 team has worked extensively with Coach Troussier, so they will have absorbed his playing philosophy. Being given opportunities in the national team is also a stimulant for young players to gain more confidence and show composure. With thorough preparation, we can certainly expect a distinctive, well-organized playing style from the Vietnam U23 team. Besides, youth football always contains many errors, and surprises are easy to happen." Commentator Quang Tung said that the Vietnam U23 team must first do well in the group stage and compete for first place against Uzbekistan to avoid facing a very strong opponent in the quarterfinals, before they can think further ahead.
Not yet able to reach the Asian market.
Commentator Quang Tùng analyzed: "Coach Troussier is still persistent with his long-term strategy, nurturing young players, and the situation is gradually improving. The biggest thing we gain is the experience of the young players. The necessary accumulation of experience is there, but success is not guaranteed. If we invest, other teams will certainly do the same, and they might even invest more, as the U23 Asian Championship is the qualifying round for the Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Vietnamese football, in reality, is still not at the Asian level."
