The Admissions Council of Foreign Trade University has just announced the threshold score to meet the conditions for admission documents for 3 early admission methods including: Method 1 is admission based on high school academic results for national excellent students, provincial and city excellent students and specialized candidates; Method 2 is admission combining international foreign language certificates and high school academic results/international competency certificates; Method 3 is admission based on the competency assessment test scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University and Hanoi National University.
This year, the highest admission score in method 1 for candidates who won national excellent student awards, Logistics major has a standard score of 30/30 points. This is also the major with the highest admission score for candidates who won provincial/municipal excellent student awards with 29.06/30 points; for specialized students, the standard score of this major is also the highest at 29/30 points. In method 2, which is the admission combined between international foreign language certificates and high school study results/international competency certificates, the standard score of this major is also the highest. The standard score for the Digital Marketing program also has a standard score of method 1 of 30/30 points. The school's newly opened major, Computer Science and Data in Economics and Business, also has a fairly high standard score, ranging from 28.41-29.5/30 points depending on the method.
According to the announcement of the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in the method of considering high school academic results combined with interviews, in addition to meeting interview requirements, in some majors, candidates must also achieve a transcript of over 27 points, an average of over 9 points per subject. In particular, the English Pedagogy major has the highest standard score (transcript of records), an average of 9.4 points/subject in the admission combination; the Chinese Pedagogy major is 9.2 points/subject in the admission combination; the German Pedagogy major and the Korean Pedagogy major both have a score of 9.1; the Japanese Pedagogy major has a score of 9.0. This year, the Banking Academy also caused a surprise when, in the method of considering transcripts, this year's standard training program has 7/30 majors that are close to the absolute threshold of 29.9/30 points; the high-quality training program has 2 majors with a standard score of 39.9/40.
Specifically, the programs with benchmark scores close to the absolute level include: Banking, Digital Banking, Auditing, Finance, Financial Technology, International Business, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Economic Law. In the high-quality program, there are 2 majors with benchmark scores of 39.9/40 points: Banking and International Finance, Digital Marketing. The International Business major (high quality) has a benchmark score of 39.01/40 points. In 2024, the University of Commerce will enroll students according to 5 methods. Of which, the admission method based on high school academic results for candidates from specialized/national key schools, the highest benchmark score is Logistics and Supply Chain Management with 29.25/30 points; Commercial Marketing, International Business, International Economics 29 points, Corporate Accounting 28 points...
In contrast to the extremely high benchmark scores in some early admission methods, there are also some training programs and training majors in some universities with quite low benchmark scores for considering high school transcripts compared to the general level, averaging only about 5-6 points per subject. These are usually private universities, local public universities, and majors that have not attracted the attention of candidates and society... In the face of the above situation, some opinions expressed concerns about the quality of input and recommended setting a certain common "floor score" to ensure input quality...
Discussing this issue, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) said that, regarding the proposal of having a common minimum score for university admission, there must be sufficient legal and practical bases for implementation. According to Ms. Thuy, regarding the legal basis, according to the provisions of the Law on Higher Education, the MOET determines and announces the minimum score for admission to teacher training majors and health training majors with practice certificates. The MOET has implemented this content in recent years in accordance with the requirements of the law.
In terms of practical basis, the system of higher education institutions in Vietnam is currently located in different locations across the country, training in majors serving socio-economic development in regions, with different admission targets (from candidates living and studying in economically developed regions, to candidates in particularly difficult economic regions, mountainous areas, and islands). Regarding the training institutions, the schools were established in different periods, with different histories; the brands and reputations of the schools are also different and separate. Therefore, the admission scores for different majors/schools vary widely, but in general, they are not less than 15 points (for groups of majors that are difficult to recruit, such as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries) and there are majors/schools with over 27 points (for health, law, economics - management, national defense, security, etc.).
In addition, over the past years, the number of candidates participating in the entrance exam and actually enrolling has only reached about 80% of the training capacity of higher education institutions in the entire system. Universities have been competing on quality and job opportunities for graduates. If graduates do not have good jobs or opportunities for development, the next generation of candidates will not choose that school to study.
Director Nguyen Thu Thuy also emphasized that training quality depends on many factors, of which entrance exam scores are only one of many factors. To control the quality of training in higher education in recent times, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued synchronous legal documents, strengthened the implementation of university autonomy along with accountability (including enrollment); strengthened the review and requirements for improving the conditions for ensuring the quality of schools and training majors; proposed policies to prioritize investment in schools training key groups of majors... Therefore, considering the above analysis, the regulation of a common floor level for university admission for the entire system is not yet firmly grounded, nor does it ensure feasibility to promote its effectiveness in practice...
