On the morning of October 11, on the occasion of attending the 44th-45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related Summits in Vientiane (Laos), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated the great success of the Future Summit recently held in New York (USA); highly appreciated the role of the Secretary-General and UN agencies in maintaining peace, stability, narrowing the gap and promoting development globally; and thanked the United Nations for its valuable cooperation and support for Vietnam's renovation and development over the past nearly 40 years.
Affirming that Vietnam values and supports the central role of the United Nations in global governance, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed that Vietnam will continue to support multilateralism and international law, contribute to global efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation, and effectively participate in the UN peacekeeping mission; and request the UN to continue supporting Vietnam in enhancing its resilience, responding to natural disasters, adapting to climate change and energy transition.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements; assessed Vietnam as a model of peace and sustainable development, “the star of ASEAN”; contributing to raising the voice and role of developing countries.
The UN Secretary-General hopes to closely coordinate with Vietnam to implement the important results achieved at the Future Summit; and hopes that Vietnam will continue to take the lead in efforts to promote peace, stability, inclusive and sustainable development globally. The UN Secretary-General also highly agrees with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's vision and "all-people, comprehensive" approach in addressing global issues such as natural disasters, climate change, population aging, resource depletion, etc.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen ASEAN-UN relations; promote ASEAN's bridging role in promoting dialogue and cooperation in the context of complicated developments in the world and the region with many emerging contradictions and conflicts.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the UN and its member agencies for actively coordinating and supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of storm Yagi (Vietnam calls storm No. 3).
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited the UN Secretary-General to visit Vietnam. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres happily accepted the invitation and said he would arrange to visit Vietnam in the near future./.
