Ba Ria - Vung Tau Gas stations in Con Dao district have limited the price of gasoline to 30,000 VND per motorbike and 100,000 VND per car due to lack of supply.
On the morning of June 2, many people riding motorbikes to a gas station on Nguyen Hue Street, Con Dao District were informed by the staff that there was a limited quantity of gasoline for sale. The store explained that each person could only buy a maximum of 30,000 VND because the amount of gasoline in the tank was very low. In the past few days, the stores have not received supplies from the mainland. "This situation rarely happens, so people on the island feel insecure," said Mr. Hung, an islander who went to buy gasoline.

According to the People's Committee of Con Dao district, the district has 5 petrol stations in operation, the goods are supplied by Duong Dong Group Joint Stock Company. Recently, this company has only been able to supply a part of the order, leading to a shortage, while the stores do not have large warehouses to reserve. The prolonged shortage of petrol affects the development of the locality, businesses and people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, said that Con Dao is short of gasoline because the cargo ship to the island is being inspected. Duong Dong Group Joint Stock Company has hired another ship to transport goods to the island, but the volume is small so it is not enough to supply the people. "A ship carrying 75,000 liters of gasoline will arrive on the island today (June 2), the shortage of gasoline will be resolved," Mr. Dong said.
According to the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, the current regulations require each gas station to have only one distributor. In Con Dao, gas stations only sign with one distributor, so when problems arise, it is difficult to handle. Therefore, the locality is proposing to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to give the island a special mechanism in which one station signs with two distributors to ensure a smooth supply.
The Department of Industry and Trade also conducted a survey to requisition some fuel reserves for Con Dao during the storm season or when cargo ships are damaged.
Con Dao is located more than 185 km from Vung Tau City, consisting of 16 large and small islands, with a natural area of about 76 km2 and a population of nearly 12,000. Tourism and services are the key economic sectors, accounting for nearly 90% of the locality's total annual revenue. Cargo ships from the mainland to the island take about 12 hours.
