Police and soldiers wade through mud and water to search for victims of flash floods in Lao Cai

(VTC News) - Hundreds of police officers and soldiers... waded through floodwaters to search for missing victims of the flash flood in Bao Yen district, Lao Cai .
The devastating flash flood and landslide in Lang Nu (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai) has claimed the lives of at least 35 people, injured 17, and left 61 people still missing.
Military Region 2 has mobilized 300 officers and soldiers to Phuc Khanh; of which 100 soldiers searched along Nu stream from Chay river; 200 soldiers searched directly in the landslide area.
On the afternoon of September 11, police officers and soldiers continued wading in floodwaters to search for victims.
Soldiers of Division 316 of Military Region 2 expanded the search for victims in the stream below, about 2km from the landslide scene.
About 30 soldiers are using hoes, shovels, and knives to turn over each tree trunk that has been swept away by floodwaters.
A body stuck in a tree was removed by authorities.
Authorities predict the search could last for days, as the amount of landslides is so large that houses have been flattened.
They groped their way through the waterlogged mud.
At the stream bed nearly 2km from the landslide, about 40 soldiers and police are searching.
At around 6am on September 10, rocks and soil suddenly flowed down from a mountain about 500m from the village, burying 37 households and almost flattening the residential area. On-site rescue forces were able to take 17 people to the hospital for emergency treatment.
