At the end of 1999, in Ha Mon commune, Dak Ha district, Kon Tum province, taking advantage of the lack of knowledge and limited awareness of ethnic minorities, some members of the Ha Mon cult group enticed and enticed people to believe in the cult. And from here, exiled Fulro reactionaries connected, took advantage of, and directed members of the Ha Mon cult to carry out anti-government activities.

According to authorities, in a short period of time, the Ha Mon cult has attracted more than 2,300 followers and spread to Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces. The activities of the Ha Mon cult have caused many consequences in many aspects, including hindering the implementation of the Party and State's guidelines and policies.

Typically, followers of the Ha Mon cult do not participate in community activities, organize weddings without registering their marriages, do not comply with military service examination orders, and limit contact with “strangers”… Some subjects even use challenging words and have an opposing attitude when summoned by local authorities. In addition, this cult also divides solidarity in the community and spreads superstition…

Kon Tum Provincial Police force went to remote areas to propagate to people not to listen to or follow evil religions.

Faced with the above situation, in the years 1999 to 2010, the Standing Committee and the Standing Committee of Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee issued many documents directing all levels and sectors to deploy tasks and solutions to fight, prevent and eliminate the Ha Mon cult in the area, in which the police force is the core.

Implementing the direction of the superiors, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Kon Tum Provincial Police have deployed and established teams to strengthen the grassroots to go to the locality to directly implement the "4 together" with the people. In addition, they have advised and coordinated with departments, branches, Party committees and local authorities to participate in propaganda, mobilization, support people, refute false propaganda, fight and strictly handle violations related to the Ha Mon cult.

In just a short time, the Kon Tum Provincial Police force coordinated with the professional units of the Ministry of Public Security to arrest 23 ringleaders, key members, and fierce opponents, criminally prosecuted 9 subjects, criticized 8 subjects in front of the people, and transferred 6 subjects to the provincial police for handling according to their authority.

Along with that, the police forces at all levels have done a good job of mobilizing the masses to participate in the fight to eradicate the Ha Mon cult, gaining the support and participation of dignitaries and the Catholic Church in the fight to eradicate the Ha Mon cult. Strengthening and improving the quality of activities of the political system and the grassroots police force, effectively implementing the socio-economic development policies in ethnic minority areas with Ha Mon cult activities.

In the memories of many officers and soldiers of the Security Team of Ngoc Hoi District Police, Kon Tum Province, they still vividly remember the arduous days of "sleeping on thorns, tasting gall" to eradicate the Ha Mon cult. According to their memories, in 2003, in Sa Loong Commune, Ngoc Hoi District, the "Ha Mon" cult appeared in Giang Lo 2 Village, the leader who called himself a priest was Mr. A Gieng. There were 53 households with 200 people who listened to the instigation, gathered every day at A Gieng's house to pray and read scriptures illegally.

“To eliminate evil cults, it is necessary to make people believe and have correct awareness of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and avoid being misled and enticed by propaganda. Every day, we eat, live, work, and speak the local language with the people. There were times when it was very difficult and stressful because the people avoided us. However, in the spirit of being a child of the village, we persistently approached them, then used emotions along with convincing arguments and concrete actions to gain their trust. Gradually, by 2017, the "Ha Mon" evil cult was completely eliminated, and ethnic minorities in Giang Lo 2 village returned to practicing orthodox religion," a police officer of Ngoc Hoi district recalled.

Kon Tum police organized visits and patrols to ensure security and order during the coffee harvest season of local people.

In the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Dang Minh Thang, Head of the Security Team, Dak Ha District Police, in 2003, in Kon Gu 1 village, Ngok Wang commune, Dak Ha district, two key members of the Ha Mon cult, A Nip and A Cheoh, lured 28 households/55 people who were followers to believe in the "Ha Mon" cult.

“The work of eliminating the “Ha Mon” cult in the area has lasted for more than 13 years, it is a process with many memories. What I remember most are the times we had to go to the fields to meet each person, each household to mobilize. We went from early morning until early afternoon and still did not have breakfast, sometimes we only had lunch at 6 pm. Those were the days of “hunger and thirst” and endured resistance, insults, and abuse from the people who believed in the Ha Mon cult,” Lieutenant Colonel Thang shared.

Kon Tum Wooden Church (Kontum Diocese Cathedral), is not only a place for Catholics to come to worship and pray, but is also a must-see destination for both Kon Tum people and tourists.

Thanks to the persistent persuasion and persuasion of the police officers, many people who followed the "Ha Mon" cult have abandoned the cult, returned to normal life, and are grateful to the local government and police. "After we successfully persuaded them, the people were very excited. The feelings between us and those who had made mistakes and followed the Ha Mon cult were very happy, like family. The people often invited us to their homes to play. We also regularly visited them. After going through many storms, now having such feelings is something I really cherish," said Lieutenant Colonel Thang.

After 13 years of focusing on synchronous and drastic implementation of measures, in which the core force is the police force, the problem of the Ha Mon cult in Kon Tum province has been basically resolved. Specifically, the organization has been completely eliminated and the political, reactionary, and autonomous separatist elements of the Ha Mon cult have been fundamentally resolved. The majority of people who abandoned the Ha Mon cult have gone to church and returned to Catholic activities.

Attending and giving a speech at the Conference summarizing the fight to eradicate the Ha Mon cult in Kon Tum province in May 2022, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security (at that time a member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security) emphasized: “The practice of the fight to eradicate the Ha Mon cult in recent years in Kon Tum has shown that when the Party Committee and the government, especially the leaders, uphold the sense of responsibility, pay attention to leadership, direction, and synchronous use of working measures, mobilize the combined strength of the political system and all classes of people, the participation of all levels and sectors under the comprehensive direct leadership of the Party Committee, in which the Public Security force plays a core role, the complicated issue of security and order can be resolved completely, creating a solid foundation for socio-economic development and vice versa, socio-economic development is also a resource to ensure national defense and security”.

“Ha Mon heresy” or “Gyin religion”, “Dega Catholicism”, appeared in Kon Tum from the end of 1999 and then spread to Gia Lai, Dak Lak by Y Gyin (born in 1942, Ba Na Ron Gao ethnic group, residing in Ko Tu village, Ha Mon commune, Dak Ha district, Kon Tum province) who made up a story to deceive gullible people.

From this fabricated story, Y Gyin and a number of other subjects spread false and extremely reactionary fabricated arguments to entice and incite Catholics to abandon their orthodox religion, abandon the church to follow their heretical religion.

More dangerously, the exiled Fulro group has taken advantage of this heresy to gather forces to incite sabotage, causing instability in security in some areas; attracting and gathering forces to work for Fulro, propagating the so-called "Ha Mon religion" of ethnic people to gather forces to sabotage the government, dividing national unity.
