Ho Chi Minh City Police warn people about buying and using fireworks during Tet

(Dan Tri) - Ho Chi Minh City Police recommend that people only buy and use fireworks produced by the Ministry of National Defense, at authorized stores and agents, and should only buy enough quantity for their own use.

At a press conference on the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of December 19, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long, Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, gave recommendations to people regarding the purchase and use of fireworks during Tet. According to a representative of the police agency, the end of the year, close to Tet, is when illegal activities of buying, selling, transporting, storing and using fireworks increase.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long emphasized that people and organizations are not allowed to buy, sell or use fireworks that are not manufactured by the Ministry of National Defense. These products must be sold at authorized stores and dealers with full licenses.

"People should buy fireworks in sufficient quantities for their intended use, and should not buy large quantities for storage. Fireworks should be stored in a dry, cool place, away from moisture, not placed under heavy objects, not placed near fire sources, heat sources or devices that generate fire or heat, and kept out of reach of children," the Deputy Chief of Staff of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department advised.

To avoid dangerous situations, fireworks should be transported gently, without strong impacts, and should not be placed near heat or fire sources. Fireworks should be used in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

"People should not use fireworks near places containing flammable or explosive substances or materials, and should not use them indoors or in covered spaces. The space above must be airy, free of obstacles or power lines...", Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long stated.

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City Police have issued and implemented a campaign to propagate and mobilize people to hand over and fight against violations of the law on weapons, explosives, supporting tools and fireworks, contributing to ensuring security and order during the Lunar New Year 2025. The forces also grasp the situation, patrol and control key areas to promptly detect, prevent and fight against illegal buying, selling, transporting, manufacturing and using of fireworks.

The city police have increased coordination with other forces to inspect the sale of fireworks at licensed businesses to promptly detect and handle the trading of fireworks of unknown origin, counterfeit goods, and fake goods. The forces have also implemented professional measures to detect and destroy production and trading lines of smuggled fireworks, counterfeit goods, and fake products of the Ministry of National Defense.
