Revealing the first ever detailed image of the universe
The Vera C. Rubin Telescope in Chile has just released its first space image – the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae – showing off its ability to observe space in extraordinary detail. This is the first time the world’s most powerful digital lens (3,200 megapixels) has been put into operation, marking a major milestone in astronomy.

Stunning detail of the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae.
In its first 10 hours, the telescope discovered more than 2,100 asteroids and seven near-Earth objects – an impressive number compared to the 20,000 asteroids found by other observatories each year. The telescope will continuously scan the southern sky for the next 10 years, creating the largest dataset ever created about the universe.
As well as potentially discovering a ninth planet in the Solar System, it could also help answer big questions about dark matter, the formation of the Milky Way and ancient supernovas. The international team, including British scientists , will be responsible for processing and analysing the huge amount of data it collects each night – up to 10 million alerts.
Alibaba Cloud opens second data center in South Korea

This is an important step in Alibaba Cloud’s global expansion strategy, aiming to serve the wave of digital transformation that is taking place strongly around the world. In Korea, Alibaba Cloud has many large customers such as messaging app Snow (backed by Naver) and AI solution provider Univa.
"With the rapid development of AI technology and the increasing need for digitalization across industries, we are continuously expanding our infrastructure in Korea," said Yoon Yong-joon, country manager of Alibaba Cloud in Korea.
As Amazon Web Services and SK Telecom are also building AI centers in Korea, Alibaba Cloud is accelerating to not be left behind.
TikTok's parent company cuts publishing ambitions
TikTok parent company ByteDance is shutting down its book publishing arm, 8th Note Press, after a short time in business. Founded in 2023, 8th Note Press emerged amid the explosion of TikTok’s #BookTok community and contributed significantly to global book sales.

Publishing is not BytaDance's core business.
While the publisher initially attracted authors thanks to its TikTok tie-up, it is now telling authors that it is shutting down and returning all publishing rights.
While ByteDance’s publisher, 8th Note Press, was hoping to leverage the power of the #BookTok community to boost sales, it may not be as successful as expected. The TikTok tie-up with authors is an initial advantage, but it’s not enough to sustain long-term operations if sales don’t pick up.
ByteDance has not yet given an official reason for this decision and has not responded to requests for comment from the press.
