The book launch ceremony was organized by the Truth National Political Publishing House on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. The event was attended by Japanese diplomatic agencies and organizations in Hanoi, representatives of leaders of several central ministries and branches, many prestigious historical researchers and a large number of students in Hanoi.
Sharing about the book “Vietnam - A View from Japan” and Japanese Professor, Dr. Furuta Motoo, Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Hanoi National University, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, said that Professor, Dr. Furuta Motoo is a very special friend of Vietnam. He began researching Vietnam in the late 1960s, when the resistance war against the US was raging. With his graduation thesis on the August Revolution in 1945, he began an academic journey that lasted nearly half a century, becoming a rare Japanese person with a deep understanding of modern Vietnamese history. Unlike many history books written in the traditional chronological style, “Vietnam - A View from Japan” is a combination of academic research with personal experience, historical analysis with social observation.

The book not only presents historical, institutional, and socio-economic issues, but also vividly depicts daily life in Vietnam through an academic lens combined with the author's personal experiences. From the daily activities of the people, cultural beliefs, social behavior, to macro issues such as the history of building and defending the country, the reform and innovation process, international integration, and Vietnam's geopolitical role in the region, the book sketches a panoramic picture of Vietnam through the unique perspective and approach of a foreign scholar.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki said that the book does not simply look at Vietnam through a one-sided lens, but provides readers with clues to understand Vietnam in a multidimensional way based on historical and social contexts. Thanks to that, many Japanese readers have had the opportunity to learn more about Vietnam. The publication of this Vietnamese edition helps Vietnamese people to look at their country from a new perspective, through the lens of a Japanese scholar.

At the book launch, delegates from Japan and Vietnam, along with Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo, had a direct exchange with readers. All comments emphasized the lasting friendship and commitment to continue promoting educational, cultural and political cooperation between Japan and Vietnam. The book “Vietnam - A View from Japan” is not only a carefully researched scientific work, but also a vivid symbol of the sincere and strong friendship between the two countries. The book plays an important role in enhancing mutual understanding and is a bridge of friendship between the two countries.

With a deep understanding of Vietnamese culture and the ability to use Vietnamese fluently, at the exchange, Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo brought many touching and sincere shares about Vietnam.
