Today (June 8), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held a meeting of the Security Council of member countries in the capital Minsk of Belarus.
The leaders attended the 21st meeting of the CSTO Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation.
Regional challenges and threats as well as security solutions were the main topics discussed at the CSTO meeting.
During the meeting, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev held talks on regional security issues with the heads of security agencies of the CSTO countries. This organization is a military alliance that includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Previously, on May 16, a meeting between the heads of state of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place in Moscow. Russian President Putin affirmed that over the years, the CSTO has become an effective regional defense structure.
The CSTO summit issued a statement affirming that member countries share common views on ensuring regional and international security, as well as ensuring the security of member countries.
Joint CSTO exercises in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are planned for this fall, the goal of which is to increase combat readiness and the level of military coordination between the countries of the organization.
According to analysts, in the face of NATO's worrying "Eastward advance", the CSTO's activities are of great significance in Russia's sphere of influence, consolidating Moscow's position. By strengthening multifaceted cooperation among member countries and making efforts to expand the bloc, the CSTO is promoting cooperation to realize its ambition of becoming a new counterweight to NATO.
