If you want to enjoy Chinese home-style dishes at affordable prices, you probably cannot miss Huong Ky restaurant. The small restaurant located on Tan Khai Street, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City is famous far and wide for its home-cooked dishes with the flavor of the Hakka people (Hakka people who immigrated from Fujian).
A popular Chinese restaurant with dishes starting from only 20,000 VND
Open from 10am to serve customers, but from 11am to 12pm is when Huong Ky restaurant has full dishes. Every day, the restaurant sells about 30 dishes, some typical dishes are available almost every day such as Trieu Chau yellow tofu, fish sauce with pork, braised pork offal with pickled cabbage, lotus root soup with chicken feet, bitter melon with chili, three-color eggs... In addition, stir-fried dishes such as vegetables will be changed every day so that customers do not get bored.
The food trays have a variety of dishes and are all prepared in Chinese style.
The food counter is located right outside before entering the restaurant. Customers will report the number of people eating, choose the dishes so that the restaurant can bring out the appropriate quantity. The price of a plate of food for one person here will be about 20,000 VND for vegetables, 25,000 VND for meat. If there are more people, the restaurant will make more plates of food and the price will also increase to about 30,000 - 35,000 VND/plate.
In addition to some almost fixed dishes, the restaurant will change new dishes every day so that diners have more choices.
The dishes here are all made from fresh ingredients every day. After being processed, the food will be placed on large trays, some dishes such as soup will be kept hot continuously. Therefore, although it is a common meal, the dishes are all very high quality and delicious.
We tried ordering a meal for two, including Chaozhou yellow tofu, pork offal stew with pickled cabbage, three-colored eggs, lotus root soup with chicken feet, and braised pork belly with fish sauce. Although the restaurant was quite crowded, the dishes were served quite quickly.
Depending on the number of people, the restaurant will bring out the appropriate amount of food.
Chaozhou Yellow Tofu is a large piece of tofu with a yellow outer layer due to being cooked with turmeric. The tofu inside is ivory white, soft and smooth but still firm and not broken. The tofu at the shop is cooked long enough for the sauce to penetrate inside, creating a rich flavor.
Teochew yellow tofu is a popular dish and often sells out very quickly.
Tri-colored eggs, also known as tri-colored eggs, are a combination of chicken eggs, century eggs, and salted eggs steamed together. The eggs are steamed just right to have a rich and fragrant taste. Braised pork belly with fish sauce is also a very delicious dish with the rich fish sauce flavor permeating every piece of meat.

Lotus root and chicken feet soup with sweet broth, in addition to lotus root, there are also peanuts in the broth, which is very unique. Braised pork intestines with pickled cabbage is a completely different version from the braised pork intestines in Saigon, the pork intestines are braised with pickled cabbage to be soft enough but still retain the chewy and crunchy texture.

The food at Huong Ky is cooked in a style rich enough to be eaten directly with rice without dipping. The dishes are cooked in Chinese style so the seasoning is very special. The downside here is probably that the rice is a bit dry, if you like sticky rice you probably won't like it very much.
If 2 people go, order about 4 dishes to be full.
The shop is so crowded that it doesn't sell on food ordering apps.
We visited Huong Ky at nearly 12 o'clock, this is also the time when the restaurant has a full range of dishes and is also the most crowded. Many customers come to Huong Ky with their families, many elderly people are regular customers who love Chinese flavors... Coming here, you will sometimes feel like you are in a foreign country because from customers to staff at the restaurant can speak Chinese to each other.
Delicious home-cooked meals at Huong Ky.
There were only about a dozen tables inside Huong Ky, so the shop was almost always full. If you came a little late, you would have to stand and wait for a table. Not only were there many people sitting down to eat, but there were also many customers buying takeout. People were coming and going busily, some people bought dozens of takeout lunch boxes, so everyone in the shop was very busy.
There are also many customers coming to buy take away.
But here you will not see the shippers from familiar food delivery brands because the shop is not registered on these applications. The owner of Huong Ky, now the third generation to take over the family restaurant, shared that there are many customers coming here to eat, sometimes the restaurant cannot serve customers in time, so Huong Ky does not dare to sell on food ordering applications for fear of not being able to guarantee the quality of the food.
If you want to eat at Huong Ky, you can visit the restaurant on site or buy take-out, but you cannot order on food delivery apps.
That's why for over 70 years, Huong Ky has always been a popular restaurant loved by many people not only because of its delicious food but also because of the seller's concern for customers, as well as always wanting to serve everyone in the best way.
