Life of Thai Nguyen people returns to normal after heavy rain and flooding

The heavy rain that lasted from the night of August 22 to the morning of August 23 caused many streets in Thai Nguyen City (Thai Nguyen) to be deeply flooded, traffic was almost paralyzed, and people's lives were turned upside down. With the efforts of local authorities and functional agencies to drain the water, from the afternoon of August 23, the water in many streets has receded, and people's lives have gradually returned to normal.

Since the afternoon of August 23, flooding in streets and low-lying areas in Thai Nguyen city has been resolved, and people's lives have gradually returned to normal.
Since the afternoon of August 23, flooding in streets and low-lying areas in Thai Nguyen city has been resolved, and people's lives have gradually returned to normal.

From the night of August 22, heavy rain with thunder and lightning began to occur in Thai Nguyen city and neighboring areas and lasted until noon the next day. Rainfall measured in the center of Thai Nguyen city was up to 236mm, in the suburbs such as Phuc Triu commune was 247mm, and in neighboring areas from 159mm to 170mm.

According to local residents, this was the heaviest rain to occur in recent years, causing many streets in Thai Nguyen city such as Hoang Van Thu, Minh Cau, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Bac Son and dozens of other locations in the area to be deeply flooded from the night of August 22 to the morning of August 23, almost paralyzing traffic. Houses in low-lying areas had water entering their houses and flooded their parking basements.

To ensure people's safety and overcome flooding, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen city directed the maximum mobilization of police, militia, officers and environmental workers to be present at vulnerable and deeply flooded areas to guide people in traffic, open manhole covers to let water drain quickly, and dig some sidewalks in the Xuong Cactus Lake area to drain water.

Deputy Head of the Irrigation Department, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Thai Nguyen province, Nguyen Van Bac, said: Provincial leaders and the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of the province have directed Thai Nguyen city and localities with heavy rain to mobilize forces and means to urgently overcome incidents of power lines and traffic landslides.

At the same time, support people at risk of landslides and flooding to move their assets; organize inspections and send forces to deep flooded areas and underground overflows to ensure people's safety, and implement the "4 on-site" motto in directing and overcoming natural disasters.

The most regrettable thing was that at around 12 o'clock on August 23, at Hong Thai culvert, Tan Cuong commune (Thai Nguyen city) on Cong river, although the authorities had put up warning signs, erected barriers, prohibited people and vehicles from passing, and everyone tried to stop them, a young man still tried to pass and was swept away by floodwaters. Immediately afterwards, the authorities organized a search for this person.

With efforts in drainage, from the afternoon of August 23, flooding on the streets was basically resolved and drained. Wherever the water receded, people and environmental workers cleaned their houses and streets, and the lives, activities, and travel of Thai Nguyen city residents gradually returned to normal, without major property damage.
