Photo contest 'Journalism Moments': Career stories of VNA reporters

The winning works of the "Moments of Journalism" photo contest show professional stories, where Vietnam News Agency reporters rushed to the scene to capture precious moments.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), on June 12, the Southern Vietnam News Agency Information Center organized a series of exhibition activities and awarded prizes for the photo contest "Journalism Moments" in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Director of the Vietnam News Agency Information Center in the Southern region, said that 2025 marks a special historical milestone, when the Vietnamese revolutionary press celebrates 100 years of its birth and accompanying the nation (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

For those working for Vietnam News Agency, this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the formation and development of the national news agency personally named by President Ho Chi Minh (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025).

The Vietnam News Agency Information Center in the Southern region is proud to be part of a journey full of challenges but also full of passion and honor. From that pride, along with gratitude for the profession and life, the first "Journalism Moments" photo contest of the Vietnam News Agency in the Southern region was born as an "open" contest for all reporters, officials and employees of the Vietnam News Agency working in the South (from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau).

After a year of launching, the contest attracted 156 entries. The Organizing Committee selected 50 entries to display and award prizes.

Prize A was awarded to reporter Le Manh Linh, Tin Tuc and Dan Toc Newspaper with the work " Historical April - Emotional working days ."

Two B prizes were awarded to the works of reporter Ngo Hong Thai, Resident Agency in Hau Giang province, reporter Le Van Minh, Representative Office of Vietnam Pictorial in Ho Chi Minh City.

There were 3 C prizes awarded to reporters: Nguyen Vu Thanh Dat, Special Topics and Management Department of Resident Agencies; reporter Dang Cong Mao, Resident Agency in An Giang, reporter Huynh Ngoc Son, Resident Agency in Ba Ria-Vung Tau... At the same time, 10 consolation prizes and 5 Impression prizes were also awarded to reporters.

The award-winning works feature professional stories in which Vietnam News Agency reporters rushed to the scene to capture precious moments.

These are also female reporters who are slim and small, but when holding a pen or camera, they are very bold and strong; they are the images of reporters full of solidarity and mutual support in each assignment. The photos are a vivid slice of a profession that is not glamorous, not easy but very proud.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee held a seminar on "The role of press photography in creative journalism" with the participation of many experienced journalists of Vietnam News Agency such as: Mr. Tran Tien Duan, Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper and Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai, Head of Photo Editorial Board, Vietnam News Agency, along with many reporters from 21 Vietnam News Agency's permanent offices in the Southern region, and journalists at representative offices in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Phan Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam News Agency Information Center in the Southern region, the work of making photo information according to specific requirements for each genre is gradually being focused on. In order for photo information to be of high quality, meeting the requirements of innovation and creativity, it is necessary to discuss and reach consensus. The delegates focused on 4 key contents for discussion: affirming the role of creative press photos in modern media; assessing the current situation and proposing solutions to improve photo quality; distinguishing between source information photos and multimedia photos; updating trends, applying technology to increase creativity and spread the value of press photos.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai, Head of the Photo Editorial Board, Vietnam News Agency, said that photojournalism is a highly creative field, requiring reporters not only to be talented but also to work hard, practice, and take great responsibility for each work.

To affirm the position of Vietnam News Agency in the field of photojournalism, reporters need to change their thinking, express information more strongly and persistently pursue major events to create impressive works./.
