(LĐ online) - On April 24, in Da Lat, La Viet Company Limited and UCC Ueshima Coffee Group co-organized the Vietnam Coffee Quality Selection Competition.

This is an annual event of these two units to honor dedicated coffee growers, contributing to improving the quality of Vietnamese specialty coffee and bringing the Vietnamese coffee brand to the international market.
This year, the competition attracted hundreds of Arabica coffee samples from many regions across the country. The Organizing Committee selected 36 high-quality coffee samples from farmers in Da Lat City and neighboring districts of Lam Dong Province such as Don Duong, Lac Duong, Lam Ha, etc. These coffee samples are all grown, cared for, harvested and processed according to strict procedures, ensuring the standards of specialty coffee.

To ensure fairness and objectivity, the Organizing Committee has applied a strict evaluation process according to international standards. Coffee samples are coded and go through the stages of preliminary processing, roasting, and brewing by a team of experienced experts.
A panel of judges comprising prestigious coffee experts from Japan, the US and Vietnam evaluated the coffees based on a number of strict criteria, including flavour, acidity, body, consistency, aftertaste, balance and overall flavour.

In particular, this year, the evaluation criteria also focus on sustainability factors, including traceability, environmental and social assurance.
The Organizing Committee will select the 8 best coffee samples. These 8 samples will be purchased by UCC Group and brought to Japan to be processed into different product lines, to promote Da Lat coffee and Vietnamese coffee in general.
In particular, the first prize winning coffee sample will have the Vietnamese national flag printed on the packaging, along with information about the farm and specific geographical indications.

At the end of the competition, the First Prize was awarded to the coffee sample of farmer Tran Thi Hue, a coffee grower in Tram Hanh commune, Da Lat city. Ms. Hue's coffee sample made a strong impression on the judges with its characteristic aroma, sweet taste and long aftertaste.

Second and Third Prizes were awarded to Ngo Thi Muoi from Tram Hanh Commune, Da Lat City, and Nguyen Hai Hung from Don Duong District, Lam Dong Province, respectively. Both coffee samples were evaluated for their purity and unique flavor, and made a good impression on the judges.
According to the representative of UCC Group, after 9 years of continuous organization, with the efforts of the organizing units and local farmers, the quality of Vietnamese Arabica coffee has been significantly improved and developed. Vietnam is currently not only focusing on exporting coffee in large quantities, but also on improving quality. Currently, Vietnam has a name on the world's specialty coffee map.
The 9th Vietnam Coffee Quality Competition has demonstrated the efforts and responsibility of Vietnamese coffee producers in improving product quality and continuing to affirm Vietnamese coffee's position in the world coffee industry.
