A representative of an Internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam said that the repair and troubleshooting schedule on branch S7 of the APG international submarine cable has been announced by the international partner.
Accordingly, the error on the S7 branch cable of the AAG submarine cable will begin to be repaired from June 23 and is expected to be completed on June 29. S7 is an important cable segment for the Internet connection from Vietnam to the international network on the APG line, because this is the connection point to the domestic Internet system, through the Da Nang landing station.
Put into operation since mid-December 2016, the APG submarine cable is about 10,400km long, located under the Pacific Ocean, with connection points in China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
This submarine cable line has the investment of network operators VNPT, Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom and is considered a cable line that contributes to providing stable transmission with larger capacity for Internet users in Vietnam.

In late 2022 and early 2023, the APG submarine cable encountered problems on branches S4, S6, and S9. However, during the repair of these cable branches, the cable management unit discovered a new error on branch S7, the segment where the APG cable branched into Vietnam.
Therefore, although the problems on the S9, S6 and S4 branch cables were repaired from the end of March to the end of May, the connection capacity to Vietnam's Internet on the entire APG submarine cable route has not been restored.
Recently, besides APG, there are 4 other submarine cable lines that Vietnamese network operators have invested in and exploited, including AAG, AAE-1, SMW3 and IA (also known as Lien A cable), which have encountered problems causing disruptions to international Internet connection services, making it difficult for ISPs in Vietnam to ensure the quality of services provided to users.
When the APG cable is restored at the end of June, international Internet connections from Vietnam will return to normal.
In April and May 2023, the problems on the AAG, AAE-1, SMW3 and IA submarine cables were resolved, fully restoring capacity.
With APG completing the cable repair on branch S7 in June, all 5 submarine cables connecting Vietnam's international Internet will soon return to normal operation.
According to the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Information and Communications in February 2023, it is expected that from now until 2025, the total number of submarine cable lines used by Vietnamese enterprises will be about 10 lines, double the current number. In particular, to increase Vietnam's initiative, the Ministry of Information and Communications is directing Vietnamese enterprises to build about 2 international submarine cable lines invested and owned by a group of domestic enterprises in alliance.
According to the plan, in 2023 and early 2024, two major telecommunications enterprises, VNPT and Viettel, will join cable alliances to put two more submarine cable lines, SJC2 and ADC, into operation, bringing the total number of cable lines connecting Vietnam's Internet to the world to 7. Both ADC and SJC2 lines have landing stations located in Binh Dinh.
