“ In the current economic situation, one of the things businesses need to do is focus on performance management to help the company overcome the crisis as well as create a premise for future development.
Therefore, businesses should apply BSCvsKPI to their organizations ," said Mr. Nguyen Hung Cuong - Director of KC24 Human Resources Knowledge Management Company, a consultant in building human resource management systems, and author of the book "Reinventing the Sphinx - Upgrading the organizational performance management system according to BSCvsKPI".
- The title of the book is "Reinventing the Sphinx - upgrading the organizational performance management system according to BSCvsKPI", I think the word Sphinx is misspelled, right?
Most people who first read the book thought so. Even the editors at the publishing house got it wrong at first. This is not a spelling mistake, I made it up on purpose. The Sphinx is a mythical figure. It is an animal with the body of a lion and the head of a human. This animal is known to ask difficult questions to explorers.
I like to imagine an organization as a sphinx. To get inside and explore , we need to answer difficult questions. “ How to upgrade the performance management system? ” is one of those questions.
- The structure of Human Resources Blog book No. 5 has 3 parts, why did you choose that?
As we can see, the book structure includes: Part 1 - Performance management and construction steps, Part 2 - Experience in recreating a performance management system according to BSCvsKPI, Part 3 - Appendix of forms with implementation examples according to the BSCvsKPI method.
Currently, in the market, we will see many books on the topic of KPI. However, when reading, the books are only for reference and the content is quite difficult for readers to apply.
That is why I chose this structure so that readers can understand and do it in practice. Readers only need to read the table of contents, then read the appendix to visualize how to do it. After that, they can refer to the articles in part 1 if they have questions. Finally, if they want to visualize how to actually implement it, readers can read part 2.
- It is known that you are one of two authors with books about BSC and KPI, so is your content different from the other authors?
If you research the market for books on human resource management, you will know that there are quite a few authors writing about this topic. However, when it comes to the topic of performance management based on BSC and KPI, there are not many authors. Up to this point, I only know of one author. The content of my book is very different.
The book shares the method of building a performance management system that I researched and applied on the basis of Kaplan & Norton's BSC (Balanced Scorecard) model combined with JD (Job Description) - KPI (Key Performance Indicators). I often call it BSCvsKPI for short.
Up to now, many companies have successfully applied this method. At the same time, there are also more than 1000 students who refer to BSCvsKPI to bring back and implement it for their own companies. As I discussed above, I aim for readers to be able to do it, so the content I write is very detailed. When readers implement the application, as long as they have questions, they can look up the book and there will be an article answering that question.
- The book is oriented towards such specialized content, will it make it difficult for readers to read?
This is also what I was concerned about when I started writing books. Technical books are often dry. While not all readers have the patience to read every line. Therefore, I chose to write in the form of a blog, which means writing in the style of an essay. Each question is a story sharing my practical implementation journey. Each story will have in-depth technical content. After reading each article, the technical knot will be untied once more.
- It is known that this is book number 5 in the series of books branded as "Human Resources Blog Books", so in the future, do you intend to continue releasing new books?
Yes! One of my life goals is to leave my knowledge to the world and preserve it for future generations. I will continue to write about my knowledge and experiences in my journey of “recreating the Sphinx”.
- Thank you!
