Veterans keep their oath to the Party

That person is veteran, 3/4 disabled soldier Van Minh Truong, 87 years old; 60 years of Party membership; former Deputy Commander of the Military Command of Binh Thuan province.

He was born and raised in a revolutionary tradition-rich countryside in village 5, Ham Liem commune, Ham Thuan Bac district. In 1961, he joined the armed forces. After a period of training and fighting, in early 1963, responding to the movement "Emulation in Ap Bac to kill the enemy and make achievements", he and his unit fought in the battle of Hoai Duc (Duc Linh). After winning the battle, he was honored to join the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam with a 3-month reserve period for his outstanding achievements (he was personally awarded 2 certificates of merit). Then, on March 29, 1965, his unit directly fought in the battle of Nui Re and the train battle 1 (October 30, 1963). On May 17, 1965, he was assigned to lead the unit of Company 486 (C486) across the Phu Hai River to capture Phu Long station, winning a great victory.

With a gentle face and bright eyes of a soldier on the battlefield, he confided: "As a soldier on the battlefield, in less than 8 years, I and my unit participated in more than 50 large and small battles, destroying many enemy forces and capturing many types of enemy weapons and equipment to serve our army". After many resounding victories, he was assigned to the position of Battalion Commander 812, concurrently Deputy Provincial Commander of Binh Thuan Province (March 10, 1968). During this time, his unit continuously fought the enemy, without a day off, typically the battle at the Kim Ngoc crossroads support force. In 1969, he was assigned to the position of Deputy Provincial Commander of Thuan Hai Province. From 1974 to February 1976, he held the position of Regiment Commander of Regiment 812, directly commanding the enemy to "encircle - attack - destroy" and completely liberate the district capital of Hoai Duc - Duc Linh (March 16 - 22, 1975).

On March 31, 1975, his unit was assigned by the Military Region to go to Lam Dong with the regional forces to ambush and intercept the enemy at Dong Lac and Dong Bo passes on Highway 20, destroying 4 enemy battalions and capturing 4 105 mml cannons. On April 3, 1975, his unit and local troops occupied Da Lat. And then there were a series of resounding victories that he and his comrades participated in until the day of national liberation. After liberation, he continued to contribute his efforts in many leadership positions in the cause of innovation and construction of his homeland. From 1986 to 1990, he held the position of Deputy Commander of the Military Command of Thuan Hai province; in 1991, he retired with the rank of colonel.

He said: I thought that after my military career ended, I would be able to return home to rest and reunite with my family. But from 1991 to 2006, he was encouraged to become Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Party Inspection Committee of Ham Hiep Commune. From 2007 to 2011, he was elected Secretary of the Party Cell of Dai Thien 2 Village, Ham Hiep Commune.

It was not until 2012 that he was able to temporarily return to normal life, but he still had not had a real rest and still participated as a core member of the neighborhood group and the village war veteran association. Returning to normal life, this year he turned 87 years old, 30 years in the army, 60 years in the Party with the rank of colonel in the army. His face was always optimistic and loving life, loyal to the Party and Uncle Ho. Just like the verses he just composed on the occasion of receiving the title of 60 years in the Party (2023):

“60 years of keeping the oath

Communist Party members never change

87 years old

"The task of Party meetings is not forgotten every day".
