Da Nang supports Co Tu ethnic minority candidates in graduation exams

In the 2024-2025 school year in Da Nang, there are 6 12th grade students who are children of the Co Tu ethnic group, studying at Pham Phu Thu High School (Hoa Son Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City). The school has created the best conditions for them to review as well as encourage and support them in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

Speaking to Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters, teacher Mai Thi Phuong Thao, Vice Principal of Pham Phu Thu High School, said: The school has made great efforts to support and best prepare students for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. Counseling, review, accommodation and living support activities are all carried out thoughtfully and with dedication.

According to Ms. Thao, the school has implemented many activities to support grade 12 students, especially students of the Co Tu ethnic group living in Hoa Phu commune and the two villages of Ta Lang and Gian Bi (Hoa Bac commune).

Right from the beginning of the school year, the school organizes counseling for students to help them choose subjects that suit their interests, aspirations and abilities. From February, the school begins to organize review and tutoring classes for students. To create the most favorable conditions for students, the school invites experienced teachers to guide, answer questions and provide sample exams in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training .

The 2025 high school graduation exam is the first exam to apply new regulations according to the 2018 generaleducation program. And one of the notable new points is the organization of the exam with two sets of questions and two separate exam schedules, corresponding to two education programs: the 2018 general education program and the 2006 general education program.

For candidates studying the new program, who make up the majority of this exam, the way subjects are selected, the structure of the exam, and the way graduation scores are calculated have been clearly adjusted. In addition, the exam regulations also have many updates related to the exam room, the items allowed to bring, and the time arrangement between the component exams. Therefore, this is a challenge for both teachers and students.

In the days before the exam, the school organizes for students to review directly with the guidance of teachers right at the dormitory. They will be familiarized, practice with the types of questions and answer questions.

For the convenience of students, the school has set up a Zalo group and teachers have supported and prepared exam questions according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, so that students can go to the group to download and solve the questions.

“For the 6 Co Tu ethnic students, from the closing ceremony until June 21, they will receive online review support from teachers, teachers will send them reference questions for practice and support to answer questions. From June 21, the 6 students will be able to review directly in the self-study room with a duration of 4 periods/session for 2 exam subjects,” said Ms. Thao.

During the review period at school, students are provided with double the normal amount of food in the dormitory. Some teachers even use their own money to buy extra food and drinks to encourage students to study well.

Specifically, according to the support policy for ethnic minority students, the meal allowance for students is 40,000 VND/day. However, the school provides additional support so that during the week of intensive review close to the graduation exam and the days when students take the exam (from June 21 to June 28), the meal allowance for students is increased to 80,000 VND/day to improve the quality of meals.

In addition, teachers in the school and especially teachers who registered to teach extra review support donated nearly 3 million. This money was used to buy more milk and fruit for students to have snacks when staying up late to study for exams.

While reviewing History for students, teacher Nguyen Thi The, History teacher at Pham Phu Thu High School, shared: Recently, teachers have focused on systematizing the basic knowledge of the program, ensuring that students have a firm grasp of the basic content.

In addition, we continuously update and communicate to students the latest changes in the exam structure, such as the addition of true/false multiple choice questions and two new topics in the Grade 11 Program. All of these contribute to supporting and helping students become more confident to enter the exam confidently and comfortably.

Meanwhile, teacher Pham Thi Tien, a 12/12 Math teacher at Pham Phu Thu High School, said: Among the 6 students from the Co Tu ethnic group, 3 students in the class are slower than the others. Some of them also have difficulty calculating, remembering formulas, and solving exam questions.

“To best support the students, the teachers themselves have applied and approached the students in appropriate question formats, encouraging, guiding, and motivating them to focus on basic knowledge first, then moving on to advanced knowledge,” said Ms. Tien.

In the dormitory area, students are focusing on their review time, with the dream of passing the wishes they have cherished for a long time. Tran Thi Hang, class 12/12, a student who won 3rd prize in the Literature competition of Da Nang city, shared: I registered for the entrance exam to the University of Education, Da Nang University with the desire to major in Psychology and Journalism. I am trying my best, focusing on reviewing to enter the exam with the most comfortable mentality. The teachers and the school's Board of Directors have supported us a lot in the past days.

“I am a little worried about Geography and the part about applying formulas and answering short answers according to the sample exam of the Ministry of Education and Training. But I believe I will pass,” Hang confided.
