At the recent admissions consultation session of the National Economics University, many parents and students were concerned that this year's Hanoi National University (HSA) aptitude test will have an optional Foreign Language section, built into a separate component, to replace the Science section, in addition to the two mandatory sections of quantitative thinking (Math and data processing) and qualitative thinking (Literature - language).

"When applying to the National Economics University using HSA scores, if candidates choose the Foreign Language section, will they be considered for admission to all majors of the school?", a parent asked.

Another student wondered, this year, when taking the HSA exam, if taking the Science section, candidates will be able to choose 3 out of 5 subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography.

"Does the school have specific requirements for which subjects candidates must choose from the Science group of the HSA exam?", the student asked.

In response to this question, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of the Training Management Department of the National Economics University, said that this year is the first year and also "relatively late" that Hanoi National University announced that it will build an additional Foreign Language option to replace the Science section, in order to assess specialized foreign language proficiency. This has caused many universities using HSA scores for admission, including the National Economics University, to not have time to change their admission methods.

To ensure the rights of candidates, Mr. Duc said that this year, the National Economics University will not discriminate between candidates taking the competency assessment test according to which combination.

“Although many students will have a slight advantage if they are strong in foreign languages, for the common benefit of the candidates, the school will not change this. Thus, any candidate with an HSA score will be considered equally by the school. This will ensure fairness for all students,” said Dr. Le Anh Duc.

Providing more information about the school's admission milestones, Dr. Le Anh Duc also said that in addition to the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training, from June 1 to June 30, candidates are required to register their wishes, documents, admission methods, and admission combinations on the school's system. The school will use this as a basis for calculating and converting scores later.

"This is not early admission but one of the steps to determine the number of candidates wishing to enter the school," said Mr. Duc.

In addition, before 5:00 p.m. on July 23, the National Economics University will announce the method of converting admission scores this year.

Which method of taking the exam helps candidates study best at the National Economics University? The National Economics University said that when surveying the academic results of admitted students in the past 3 years, the school found that students who took the Hanoi National University's competency assessment test combined with an English certificate achieved the highest academic results.
