Nearly 100 pillars and steel pipes attached to the median strip separating motorbike and car lanes on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway were lost, suspected to have been stolen.
On the afternoon of November 6, along the approximately 4 km long highway access road from An Phu roundabout to Phu Huu roundabout (Thu Duc City), there were 15 locations where the steel median strip with reflective stickers separating the motorbike and car lanes was missing. The median strip was designed with a T-shaped tube attached to a long steel pipe with a screw post screwed into the concrete. In many places, only the iron screws remained.

Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VEC E) said that its patrol staff discovered a series of missing median strips at the end of October and then reported them to the authorities for investigation.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is nearly 55 km long, with 4 lanes. The section of the expressway leading from An Phu roundabout to the Ring Road 2 intersection is about 4 km long for motorbikes.

Theft of equipment at infrastructure projects is common in Ho Chi Minh City. At the end of September, many lamp posts on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway, which had just opened to traffic, had their covers pried off and their power cables cut. In May, more than 200 manhole covers on the Hanoi Highway were smashed to get their steel reinforcements and sold as scrap.
Last year, dozens of manhole covers at Thu Thiem 2 Bridge (now Ba Son, connecting District 1 with Thu Duc City) and several roads in the Thu Thiem urban area were also stolen by thieves. The suspected thief was later arrested.
