Construction to expand Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway to 8-10 lanes begins on August 19

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway expansion project was implemented as an emergency construction project, starting on August 19.

Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has just approved the results of contractor selection for two main construction packages of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway expansion project.

In which, package XL01 (construction of the expressway section from Km4+00 to Km13+900) is implemented by the consortium of Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company - Trung Chinh Construction and Trading Company Limited - Phuong Thanh Transport Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company - 368 Construction Joint Stock Company - Khang Nguyen Infrastructure Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company.

The winning bid price for package XL01 is 5,573.5 billion VND, contract implementation period is 18 months.

Meanwhile, package XL02 (construction of the expressway section from Km13+900 to Km25+920) is carried out by the consortium of Truong Son Construction Corporation - Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation - Thang Long Corporation - Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company 368.

The winning bid price for package XL02 is over 4,628.9 billion VND, contract implementation period is 17 months.

Previously, VEC approved the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway to 8 to 10 lanes.

According to the approval decision, the route of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway expansion project basically follows the old route, expanding to both sides. The section across Long Thanh Bridge is expanded to the right of the existing route (downstream).

In terms of scale, the 4.8km section from the Ring Road 2 intersection to the Ring Road 3 intersection will be expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes.

The section from the Ring Road 3 intersection to the intersection with Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway is 14.7km long and has been expanded from 4 lanes to 10 lanes.

Long Thanh bridge alone will build a new bridge with a scale of 5 complete lanes from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, on the right side of the existing bridge.

The project has a total investment of 14,945 billion VND, with Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) as the managing agency, investor, and direct implementation and management organization.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway expansion project aims to complete the expressway according to the approved plan, meeting the increasing transportation demand, shortening time, reducing transportation costs, contributing to convenient connection between Long Thanh International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City.

Expansion of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway is carried out under emergency construction project.

Regarding construction progress, VEC said the project is being implemented as an emergency construction project, starting on August 19, and will basically complete the project in December 2026.

Long Thanh Bridge will close the main bridge in December 2026 and complete the remaining items in March 2027.
