Deputy General Director of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) Nguyen Tien Viet said that ACV is currently implementing a series of routes connecting the main axis to the airport area.

Notably, the 21.7km tunnel system has been constructed underground, at a depth of nearly 20m. This system is designed to create underground space for future metro or subway connections, ensuring the ability to expand and operate synchronously when the airport officially comes into operation.

Regarding construction progress, ACV said it is speeding up all bidding packages, of which the first runway is basically completed; the second runway is also accelerating; the passenger terminal and taxiway are progressing very well.

After listening to the report, General Secretary To Lam noted that units need to pay special attention to the passenger pick-up and drop-off system and traffic routes to and from the airport, ensuring no overlap, convenience, and easy access for passengers.

The General Secretary emphasized that airport logistics plays a key role, so it is necessary to plan appropriately to ensure the smooth, safe and smooth flow of passengers, goods and vehicles, creating a good impression right from the moment passengers set foot at Long Thanh airport.

After the field inspection, General Secretary To Lam and the delegation worked at the operating house of the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board. The working session had special significance, demonstrating the deep concern of the Party and State for the Long Thanh Airport project, a key national infrastructure project with a strategic vision for the economic development of the region, area and the country.

General Secretary To Lam assessed that the progress of Long Thanh airport is very good, with close direction from the Government and relevant ministries and branches. The entire political system has unanimously recognized the project's stature, strategic significance and investment efficiency for the key economic region in the South, especially Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.

The General Secretary emphasized that Long Thanh airport is not only a modern aviation infrastructure project but also a strong driving force to promote regional and national economic development. When put into operation, the airport will handle a huge volume of passengers and cargo, contributing to affirming Vietnam's national, regional and international position.

The project is being built in a modern, green, smart and synchronous direction, ensuring fast progress "every day late is a loss". At the same time, it is necessary to clarify the national and international competitiveness of the airport, learn from the successful experiences of neighboring countries, so that even though we are behind, we can catch up, even surpass.

The General Secretary also noted that the airport design must be smart and convenient, bringing maximum convenience to passengers, and at the same time becoming a comprehensive development center, connecting the fields of high technology, tourism, urban areas and logistics services, in order to create high investment efficiency and sustainable added value.

In particular, it is necessary to carefully calculate the connecting traffic plan, in which the travel time from Long Thanh airport to Ho Chi Minh City is about 30 minutes is reasonable. Therefore, the research and early implementation of the subway or high-speed railway system is considered the optimal solution, ensuring convenience, modernity and synchronization for the entire regional infrastructure system.

At the meeting, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang proposed allowing Dong Nai to apply a similar mechanism to Ho Chi Minh City, including appointing investors, shortening investment procedures, and separating site clearance and construction into two independent projects to speed up progress.

The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that priority will be given to implementing the connecting route with Dong Nai first, and tomorrow will work with relevant units to implement it.

Regarding Dong Nai, Provincial Party Secretary Vu Hong Van said that Dong Nai province is simultaneously implementing many key transport projects including expressways, beltways, provincial roads and railways to ensure inter-regional connectivity. Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City are also coordinating to implement major bridge projects such as Cat Lai, Long Hung and Phu My 2.

Dong Nai also develops new industrial parks to attract investors; plans more than 1,000 hectares for trade and services, including restaurants, shopping centers, golf courses; about 10,000 hectares of urban land to serve experts and workers, along with educational and medical land funds to attract large schools and hospitals.

In particular, Dong Nai would like to be approved to establish a free trade zone in and around Long Thanh airport; propose the Central Government to allow the two localities, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, to continue to implement the signed connecting traffic routes, approve the policy of building a regional free trade zone, extend the metro line from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai, apply special mechanisms and approve investment in the Western expressway.

The General Secretary assessed that the first phase of the Long Thanh airport project has achieved many positive results. Traffic route No. 1 has been completed, the passenger terminal block has reached more than 60% of the contract volume. The project also clearly demonstrates the financial capacity, autonomy and ability of Vietnamese enterprises, while contributing to saving significant financial resources.

The General Secretary acknowledged and commended the Government, the Ministry of Construction, ministries, Dong Nai province and the investor for their close coordination, contributing to the project's current progress.

The General Secretary requested relevant ministries and branches, especially the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction, to comprehensively evaluate investment efficiency not only in terms of finance and economy, but also in terms of national defense, security, job creation and contribution to regional GRDP so that Long Thanh can truly become a "project of the century" that is transparent, effective and spreads development values.

The General Secretary suggested making the most of existing machinery and equipment to speed up the progress of the next stages, soon increasing the exploitation capacity to 50 million passengers/year, because each day the progress is shortened means more savings, greenness, cleanliness, and beauty for the project.

At the same time, it is necessary to speed up the implementation of the route connecting the airport with Ho Chi Minh City, soon start the construction of the railway connecting directly to Long Thanh, forming a modern logistics center right at the airport area.

Along with that, build a synchronous aviation service ecosystem including hotels, commercial centers, education, healthcare, turning the area around Long Thanh airport into a dynamic international service center.
